Halfway through tonight’s final, a few pointers so far:-
U.K. entry (John Newman’s fat brother) was disappointing, bottom five. Four separate female entries sharing the same dress. Russian doll dalek. 80s power ballad Switzerland. Iceland entry was soooo cool and just typical Eurovision.

San Marino have gone all out haven’t they? Got actual real-life Flo Rida dueting with their singer.

I liked Ukraine. Halfway between an Irish drinking song and a rave.
Good to hear an Italian version of Guerilla Radio by Rage Against The Machine as well.

Italy are the favourites to win, though Malta are tipped to challenge them.

Good to see that our jury gave maximum points to our neighbours across the channel.
Voila!
Meanwhile we’re currently the only “nil poit” halfway through the voting. He must’ve been crap to be trailing that Germany effort.

All 39 juries have voted and it’s a two-horse race between Switzerland and France. The U.K. are the only 0 points after the jury vote.
Onto the public vote next...

Must say this relatively new method of collating the results makes it a lot more exciting.

Feel sorry for the poor lad who took it in good humour. I'm not surprised though, we always enter such bland, forgettable songs. Graham Norton says it "wasn't the worst song", and no it wasn't, but can you remember it? Germany was the worst song and at least they got a couple of comedy votes.

U.K. public: “can’t believe we got zero points!!11”
Amanda Holden half an hour earlier, to the entire watching continent: “that was French and Dutch but I don’t know which is which.”
🤦♀️
Get Scott Mills back FFS

Top two in the public vote were Italy and Finland - proof that indeed “rock never dies!”
The public clearly wanted something different from the usual Eurodance beat which seemed to be omnipresent for most of the performances.
Isn’t it World Goth Day too? Apt.

Meanwhile, Greece get a 10-year-old to deliver the results in perfect English.

Twitter was full of blaming of Brexit and “political” votes and “the EU hates us” - Eurovision has absolutely nothing to do with the EU. The reaction has been more embarrassing than the result - some even saying our entry was “100% the best song” 🤨

Over 8 million in the ratings, people say they hate it but they keep watching. Our song was dreadful and it's no surprise we got 0, although I thought we could have snuck a couple of points from the Jury considering what Germany got.

I watch it for a bit of a laugh, didn't realise so many took it seriously and get that bothered about us getting 0 points. We could put Adele out and we'd still get 0 points, so it's not like anyone is watching it expecting us to be mixing it up with the top. This years song was a little bland too, which didn't help.

The new voting system was partially designed to stop 'nil points' from happening and no country has ever received 0 points from both televoters and the jury under this voting system until this year. That the German and Spanish entries got points sort of shows how difficult it is to actually get 0 points nowadays. Feel a bit bad for the guy, didn't think it was a terrible song, just forgettable. We got 5 points when we sent that laughable Electro Velvet joke-act in 2015!
I enjoy Eurovision for many reasons but one of them is seeing the UK treated with the contempt it largely deserves. All of the 'we shouldn't take part next year because its political' reactions simply reinforce the point.

We could put Adele out and we'd still get 0 points, so it's not like anyone is watching it expecting us to be mixing it up with the top. This years song was a little bland too, which didn't help. It's basically just like a big piss up with a load of European nations acting daft and celebrating their individual quirks. If you were to take it seriously, you'd have to question for example why Cyprus and Greece give each other 12 points every single year, even now that there is meant to be an expert jury from every country voting. But for all people say it's fixed and everyone just votes for their neighbours, it's not like the same countries are winning it every year.
I think we have to accept that, rightly or wrongly, we're viewed as the America of Europe. When we think of Americans, we tend to patronise them a little and see them as a bit clueless and wrapped up in themselves, with no idea what's going on in the rest of the world. Having travelled a fair bit in Scandinavia in particular, I get the impression they view Brits in largely the same way - we won't use their currency, their measurement system, their side of the road, and hardly any of us bother learning a second language, and now we want to leave the EU as well. I don't think they hate us or deliberately choose not to vote for us, but they see us as a bit stand-offish and insular, so they identify better with their neighbours.

Not too sure who you met out there. This just makes them sound controlling and childishly affronted because we won't conform to them - which I'm sure wasn't your intention!! It's a real eye opener coming on to the off-topic forum, if nothing else!
