It's not like they're rude. I just sense that they notice the difference. Of course, I may be imagining it.

It's much the same as the attitude a lot of us have towards the US. We say things like "only in America!" when crazy things happen there. We see them largely rejecting football, and sticking to their own idiosyncratic ideas about justice and gun control, and we think they seem a bit of sync with the rest of the world. I just sense we're seen as similar within Europe.
