This is NOT a criticism of the volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes at Chester FC.
However, the announcement that the sponsorship of the Deva Stadium that was being worked on by Paul Bodmin now appears to have fallen through makes me wonder whether some of the Boost The Budget funding shouldn’t be diverted towards appointing a well-qualified Commercial Manager with specific responsibility for securing stadium sponsorship and pitch side advertising.
What do Boost The Budget contributors think?

What do Boost The Budget contributors think? Paul Bodman is the best man for the job and we’re lucky to have him. He’s certainly better than a lot of the paid staff we’ve had doing similar roles. Sponsorship deals like this are not easy to get over the line and in the current economic climate it’s doubly difficult to generate commercial income. I wouldn’t read too much into what’s gone on, things like this happen all the time and I’m certain Paul can find new backers.

Take it the DHL sponsorship which was rumoured isn’t happening then They'd only want to paint the place red and yellow🥵 I heard a sponsorship package was agreed and should have been delivered last week, but they turned up three days late and lobbed it over the East Stand.

Why are there so many people looking to disparage the efforts of all those currently involved at Chester? Why do some feel the need to think that an outside owner is going to be our saviour? Our last three owners were Vaughan, Smith and Gutterman. What makes them think some shister with no affiliation to our club is going to change things? Give me one Paul Bodman vs 100 bullshiters like Maguire, or complete con artists like the three mentioned previously. People need to get it into their heads, football at this level has changed over the last decade. We can play our own part to get Chester back up, but I would rather take another 10 years as a supporter owned tthan 2 years owned by a narcissist, which sees us end up millions in debt and straight back to square one again.

Having held the commercial portfolio I don’t envy the job of Bodders right now - I’m sure if anyone has any good contacts who have a spare £30k ish he would be happy to talk about the naming rights!
We have to remember where we are in the football pyramid - maybe when we get to NL the interest widens as we have a bigger appeal to National sponsors.
I have no issue with the ground naming rights being in the commercial brochure even if the club were half way to agreeing a deal - it’s a brochure that will be amended or edited and be around for a while so get as much in as you can!
I still try to help and generate ground boards snd other deals with and for Paul and the club but it’s a tough nut to ask small businesses for money when we don’t yet have any clear idea on how many fans will be allowed etc, and also a lot of those business have suffered themselves! Saying that I have booked a board and a client / contact is having a couple so things are moving.
Don’t forget Paul also has his own business to run but is spending many many hours at the club (been there done that it takes over) - for instance when the car boot sales are on he’s there the day before helping mark out and then there for 630 to open up and stays to lock up. Same with the Young drivers - early start and later finish, all work that goes on behind the scenes. It’s the same with a lot of volunteers and we need to support every single one of them!

Last time I was down the ground Bod was cutting the grass as Baz was on furlough. As above one Paul Bodman is worth 20 Mark Maguires or Tracy Wainwrights.
Anyone know anyone who may be remotely in a position to offer sponsorship shouldn't hesitate to contact Paul, he is a professional and extremely competent individual.

Many years ago,the Club employed the services of a freelance commercial agent on a commission only basis to secure sponorship. The more he brought in, the more he earned. A good idea, but the powers that be, at the time, decided that the didn't want to pay what was due to the agent and the agent left. I would be delighted to pay!00k if the agent brought in !m

Securing any type of commercial deal will be difficult at present. With no football with spectators at our level for a long time and businesses looking to recover from the past 18 months any deal for the stadium, stands, boards, and match sponsorship will be tough. I do wish Paul well getting things in and i hope shouts it from the rooftops when they come in, as any companies wishing to get involved now could be great assets moving forward (especially our existing ones).
