Bombed out of Real Madrid after dithering over an offer of a one year contract extension and ten per cent pay cut (in line with other players due to Covid financial impact on the club). In his 30s and suffered an injury hit season just gone. Ramos wanted no pay cut and two year deal but the club eventually called his bluff and withdrew the one year offer. Great player but can't help laughing at his arrogance and how out of touch he is about what's happening in the world. Sometimes footballers just don't help themselves. Shame after some of the classy reaction to the Erikson situation.

Maybe if they had offered him a two year deal with the second being in some sort of coaching role, Madrid may not have come out looking as badly as they have. They had no issue offering Aguero a two year deal (Admittedly he is two years younger) but he is a player with no affiliation with the club or its supporters, in fact he spent 5 years with Athletico.

Billionaire-backed ESL club moaning about losing money due to the pandemic? Lol.

Someone I know who is quite knowledgeable on economics reckons at least one of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus will go bust within the next couple of years. These clubs take it for granted that the football ecomony will grow every year, and when something like Covid upsets that, the knock-on effect can be serious when we're dealing with 10- or 12-figure sums.

Back in 2009 the recession over halved my income year-on-year, yet I had mates complaining they didn't get a Christmas bonus! It's a bug bear of mine that they don't teach kids more about money when they're at school-age. I heard a fact a while back that over a half of 18 year olds don't realise you need to pay back your credit card. Be interesting to see where he goes, but he's now running the risk of earning much less.

He was paid what himself and his employer agreed over the years, he stuck with the same football club for over 15 years leading them as captain to dozens of titles. He is also an ambassador for UNICEF given his work for charity over the years. A little humility works both ways. Given they were also involved in the ESL saga, Real Madrid have not done much here to escape the tag of greedy b*stardos either. I have little sympathy for their owners and shareholders.

Can't argue with what you say about Real. I'm sure Ramos won't be short of offers. I have a sneaky feeling he might patch it up and sign a new deal at Madrid after all
