I see the Goats have passed the 6,000 mark for season ticket sales. I must admit its embarrassing being a Chester fan when them lot down the road can get themselves out and build up momentum to get that number of season ticket sales. And what is it we say "FAN OWNED IS THE WAY FORWARD ". Absolutely rubbish. We will never get anywhere with the same die hards pumping there own money into the club to raise a fee quid. My lad played at goals in a league last week and said there were 2 lads there from Wrexham in tracksuits trying to get people signed up to the Wrexham fan club. OMG it's on our doorstep. I played last night and asked how many people roughly play at Goals in a week. They couldn't give an exact amount but said well over 1500 play weekly. I asked if a representative of Chester FC had approached them and they said NO. This is just one example of how little we have come. We will never get the kids back in the stadium whilst bring fan run and playing in this poor league. It's a fact. It really is a sorry state .

Why don’t you contact the club and offer to help with recruiting at Goals across the road then?
You’re comparing us with a Hollywood millionaire-owned club that has always been bigger and always had a bigger fanbase than us.

Listen for years now I’ve been a backer of us going private ownership in some way and through some strange points about men in tracksuits, I sort of get your point. However I’ve come to terms with this ideology of us being a league club anymore and I’d be happy see this current squad get out this league and just consolidate in NL, which is about our level and club size under fan ownership. A few games on BT, a cup run etc is all I ask for now.

I think it all comes down to fan expectations...and what is expected of our club..if we are happy to just do quite well as fan owned non league team and except a lower standard of football..thats fine...but overtime expect footfall through the turnstiles to eventually start to decrease , then it really does become to be an ever decreasing circle..but...everybody to their own...

Have you attended any CFU meetings (virtual I guess, this year) to raise such concerns and to seek the answers that you want? We won’t be averaging 1,000 a game - that silly talk has already been put to bed on this forum this week.

You can’t really say that without any evidence or proof when we have only had one home attendance for the best part of 18 months and that was limited capacity to season ticket holders.
The Community Trust are doing brilliant work in getting out to the next generation of supporters and that is complemented by the excellent pricing structure for season tickets and matchday.

Whatever happens with this pandemic this year we will survive and be ready to start next season, but if things go tits up again a lot of EFL and National league clubs will struggle because of the overspending that’s going on this season. Let’s not forget uncle Murphy almost took us for a ride not long ago which we can thank the current board for saving us from another lunatics actions.

We need to accept where we are and what size of club / fan base we have. Getting back to the original point of Wrexham; they have a huge catchment area, ground and now the marketing to back it up. Historically we’ve never averaged more than 3.5-4K a game even in our 70/80s peak. We don’t have the niche of being biggest club in north Wales, pulling on the welsh casuals etc. I’m optimistic for this season and think we’ll go close.

Without investment we’ll never go further then mid table NL Sadly people are happy with that 1. I'm not sure how much investment went into Sutton United last season. 2. Being fan owned doesn't preclude us from private investment. 3. On the several occasions that the club has been for sale in the past 30 odd years, the only people who ever stepped up to the plate, shared some common traits - nutjobs, certified barmpots, squirrels on redbull and shiftless pellet brained c*cksuckers. Organic growth utilising the best on/off-field management, filling the south stand with kids and utilising the incredible goodwill of our volunteers seems a sensible approach to me.

Sutton been fantastically run and also had a lot of money come in from 4G pitch etc So they probably spent a fair whack in fairness last season more then we’d be able to if we went up. Just can’t see how we’d go any further then NL With how the clubs being ran

Cracking famous FA Cup run for Sutton too, remember. No reason why that can’t happen to us unless we absolutely bottle an ideal draw like last season!!

We should not compare ourselves to Wrexham when it comes to attendances, they have always had higher averages than Chester. The had 15 to 17000 in the 70’s, we could only dream of attendances of 5000. It is a fact that Chester has always been one of the lower averages in their league unless at the top of that league. As soon as results falter and the team drop down a couple of places then attendances also drop. I have supported Chester since 1965 and this has always been the case, very very few exceptions

Depressing post. There's no logic to moaning about being supporter-owned when we haven't had a serious offer of investment in over a decade. It's what we've got. If you can get involved and help it work better, great. If you can't, stop whinging and asking someone else to do it.

We shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to any other club. Wrexham, one way or another aren’t a rival to us anymore, we might not like it but it’s a fact. Just in the same way that Forest Green, Crawley, Stevenage and Salford have all bypassed us over the last couple of decades.
We’re fan owned, the fact is we’ll continue to be fan owned as NOBODY out there wants to own a club like Chester. The apathy that comes around here every few months is driven by lunatics believing that if they post it enough someone will take us privately and make us ultra successful. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, EVER.
We look to have a really exciting, young team for this season with some wily old senior pros, let’s enjoy the football, let’s hope for some wins, let’s hope for a cup run and let’s all get behind what our unique set up is.

If we had the money they have now I'm sure we'd have people out there in tracksuits at a goals centre. Of course we will be envious towards the goats who wouldn't be but we aren't in a terrible position compared to a lot of football clubs...look at the mess at Derby county currently. Football clubs are for life not for a few years and it's a long haul game and business. There will be good and bad times ahead like with every single football club in this country big or small!

If what is written in the original post is correct then it doesn’t sit particularly well with me that Wrexham are promoting themselves so close to our home. I know in theory they can do whatever they like and they will probably argue that Goals is not just used by people from Chester, but it does feel a bit like muscling in on our territory. Their new owners will probably be quite happy about it given the “always beat Chester” crap, but I doubt their fans would be too overjoyed if, say, Shrewsbury or Tranmere were promoting themselves in Eagles Meadow.

He put together one ghost written letter to the fans which was embarrassing and then he promptly disappeared. Can't believe we still have to go over this. Just go back and read all the old threads from the end of his involvement if you want to go over all of this again, we can't keep replaying the same thread every time someone on here gets envious about another club.

We got a submission of interest and when we, quite rightly, asked him to provide a costed plan he took his ball home and ran off crying. The club was merely a vehicle for his outlandish crackpot plans and we dodged a massive bullet.

This is pretty tiresome stuff.
So what? Bradford had 10,000 season ticket holders in League Two a few years ago. They're not in our league atm, and so we aren't competing directly with them. We look to have a decent squad who'll play nice football, and we have a good chance of being at the right end of the table come the end of the season - that's all I care about.
I don't hear Everton fans moaning endlessly about how Liverpool have more fans than them - and with LFC and EFC it's a factor of about 1,000 to 1 worldwide, not 2 or 3 to 1 (or even 4 or 5 if their wildest dreams come true), and they have to compete with them every season.
Enjoy the season and stop moaning before it even starts, FFS.
