TrainSplit is good but it doesn't take regional day tickets like the Saveaway into account, and these can help you save even more. It also charges a fee for the tickets, although only a small one to be fair.

I'll re-title this thread so that it stays here for all away day train discussions

In order to make travel to each away match more accessible, perhaps the thread could be deleted after the match and a new one started for the next one?

Can you get to Fylde on the train. Yep. Kirkham & Wesham is less than a mile away. Change at Warrington Bank Quay and then again at Preston if travelling from Chester.
Trains all look fine on the day as well by the looks of it.

Curzon Ashton away around £21.50 open return. Have found it for about £8 x 2 singles on set time trains. Any cheaper? Know we struggled with the away game at PS with coach spaces, maybe all to do with the train strike but thought it would be good to keep/start this thread going for some.

It's easier to just get the train to Manchester Piccadilly/Victoria and then get the tram to Ashton West
The tram stop at Ashton West is right at the main road turn off for the ground, whilst Ashton-under-Lyne station is just over a mile away

Fair few pubs outside the station as well.
The tram crawls there.

Was a good day out aside from the result. Depends where you want to spend your time pre-match I guess.

Northern Rail’s £1 tickets are online from 10am, first come first served. Bear in mind for away trips coming up.

Anyone going on Saturday? Few of us on the 10.10, there was a good deal on, only cost around £20 return.
Nice place for a mosey around Buxton. And hopefully 3 lovely points.

Missing this one as going to head Chorley next week. Did try and sweeten the other half to come as it’s a lovely town and could leave her in the spa for the game but the 2 pretty decent hotels were over £200 (what is with hotel prices these days anyhow?) Good luck lads, safe travels. UTS.

Not sure anyone would be going to Chorley by train tomorrow as you'd struggle to get back. But if you do, go via Liverpool and get a Merseyrail All Area Saveaway (about £5.65) and a return from Garswood to Chorley (£13). You'll save a good £10.

Right then, anyone know the best way to get to Boundary Park? I've had a very quick look and it looks like 1 train and 2 trams which would take 2 1/2 hours (and that doesn't include drinking stops on the way).

I went there seven or eight years ago and can't quite remember how I got there, but I remember it being a pain. I didn't get a tram or bus so I think I must've walked from Mills Hill Station which is over two miles. Not sure why I did it that way as a tram from Manchester Victoria seems better.

There appears to be rail replacement bus service from Chester via Warrington due to engineering works on the line that day, so the journey time to Victoria is showing up between 90 minutes and two hours.
May be better going Chester to Crewe and then Crewe to Victoria.
Then a tram to Oldham Mumps.
Edit: actually you can get the old rattler through the Cheshire set direct to Manchester but it’s a long one. “We’re the famous Chester FC and we’re off to Mobberley… Mobberley! Mobberley!”

Taken from the Oldham website:
Westwood is the closest stop to the ground, around a 20-minute walk away.
Journeys on the tram take approximately 20 minutes from Manchester Victoria.
Metrolink operates a zonal fare system with Westwood, Oldham King Street, Oldham Central and Oldham Mumps all located in zone 3.
The cost of a zone 1+2+3 ticket is £3.80 for a single journey or £4.30 for an off-peak day travelcard. This price covers travel across any of these zones, such as a journey between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.
Although Westwood is closest, as FOP says, Oldham Mumps would probably be best if you want to visit a few pubs on the way.

Aye been on it many a time. When Altrincham knocked us out the FA Cup in the fourth qualifying round under Steve Burr we used that route for a pub crawl around Cheshire.
