Sadly one good cup run has been lacking, and despite it being said (I think at a Squad Builder meeting?) that any money from cup success would be reinvested into the team, we've not then achieved on the pitch to make this happen.
To echo what has been said further up, our lack of ambition will slowly kill off the club through dwindling attendances leading to dwindling income. In the past, on the old DC, I seem to recall that people would suggest "kids for a quid" or a "ten pound terrace" event, and this would be shouted down by "We've tried it and no-one turned up!". Generally, I recall that any such promotions have been poorly advertised, so no one outside our regular fanbase knew anyway. If the players also ensure that they turn up and perform on these events that we do manage to squeeze in a few new faces, that also helps.
I agree with a poster further up the thread that we should set a high target, certainly top-half of the table if not a low playoff spot and let people know that. Sure, it's unlikely we'll achieve it, but it gives the players and manager something to fight for, and not just give-up once we get past Christmas and look like we're probably going to achieve safety.

Regarding the comments earlier in the thread regarding Tony Allen; seem to remember he was brought in via the back door, (as the Vacancy was not advertised by the Club at the time), and this was under the Chairmanship of Grenville Millington. So much for DNA, obviously that did not include transparency and honesty!
