Thank you to all who contributed to the discussion on the other thread devachat.freeforums.net/thread/37/rip-sir-ken-morrison As mentioned we have sourced buckets and now someone has said they can sort out laminated pictures of Brutus and Ken for them. All donations will go to the crowdfunder that has raised over £2300 so far. A few have said they will be doing the applause on the 85 minute so thank you - and I hope many of you join in. Does anyone have contacts in the local papers who can help raise the profile of this? (This is a picture of him alive with a painting not something I have photoshopped myself. Brutus is on the left.)

Fantastic response, thought this was a wind up at first but a deserving crowdfunder for a much loved character of the Saltney area.
Brutus was an institution of Morrisons and brought love to everyone who met him. He will be missed.

Do you need a hand with the collection? Usually got time to kill before matches. Always used to see Brutus around.

Thanks I will try and send a message on this new forum system to arrange.
Also thanks to the user onetrevorstorton who pointed out the crowdfunder is on £2,342 - it would be wonderful if we as a club raise some more to chuck in.
Perhaps if you get some 'whoops' items in your Morrisons shop this week what about donating the difference to full price? I got some penang / thai chicken bites in a medium sized tub there once for like 25p but that was end of the day clear out so if that happened again I would not be able to work out a 'real price' donation without scales and a calculator, and that would be silly, as it did not have a full price on the label. What I mean is do what you can!

Its bonkers AOTN tried to get money raised for people to be treated for an incurable condition that has a huge suicide rate. People from Chester and Deeside are going to get treated so that they x an manage the condition. Think I was the only one on the other board to donate. Yet a cat as cute as he was rakes in over 2k. Crazy world

Why would it be a wind up? Some of us use Morrisons a fair bit and 'Sir Ken' is known by staff and customers as there is that connection. As for Brutus I challenge anyone not to know of him around here. To the south of our hallowed turf it was the first thing you came across and the new store is not that far away. As mentioned by another poster the crowd funder is separate to this idea - www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/brutus it is up another £100 to £2400! My idea is a simple short 85 th minute round of applause for Sir Ken and hoping to do a bucket collection at the game too. Considering he fed half of us for our lives a few seconds of applause is nothing in my book and I am delighted many other blues feel the same.

As an Asda loyalist and a lover of mice, I won't be applauding.

I still have a Feline that there is an element of wind up here but I am not going to be catty about it and the statue will be the Purrfect tribute to Sir Ken 😉

That would be a disaster , remember the last time we attempted a minutes silence prior to a televised local derby ?, what if a Trashmere fan breaks it by shouting something derogatory or god forbid making barking sounds will H block vent its full wrath onto them by surging forward in an attempted pitch invasion ?

Are we honestly having a minutes silence for a bloody cat? It's sad I know and many people will miss him but it has nothing to do with football. Minutes silences are losing all meaning anyway, we have one for everything nowadays. Raise money for a statue yes, but it shouldn't affect the match day.

Aye it is very weird and, actually, demeans all the minutes silences and applauses we have done for ex-players and fans - as well as national and international mournings.

I can't honestly believe someone is pushing for a minutes silence before the game for a bloody cat.
I thought the original post was a wind up.
If they've raised £2,300 for a statue already why do they need more money? The way it's going it'll be the size of a bloody Lion!

Wasn't there an announcement at the beginning of the season saying we weren't going to do these minutes silences/applause during the season and instead honour anyone that passes at the end?

No one has mentioned a minutes silence.
Just get on your feet in the 85th minute and applaud!!

With this being a bit of a quirky story "Football fans raising money for a cat" Im sure one of the tabloids would do a piece on it too

I can't believe what I'm reading here - it's got to be a wind up. A minutes silence for a dead moggy and clapping for someone who has nothing whatsoever to do with Chester FC - christ on a bike what's the world coming to.

A Yorkshire man with no affinity to the club or the area other than his chain having a couple of stores around here.
Then having a further bucket collection to raise money for a statue of a dead Cat - that has already raised over £2,000.
Now I'm no expert on Statues by any stretch of the imagination, but I highly doubt that a lifesized replica statue of the moggy will cost a significant amount of money!
There are far more worthwhile causes in this City that need peoples support, for instance the Babygrow appeal at the Countess of Chester Hospital are always looking for people to help them with their fundraising for a new Neo-Natal Unit.
Yet people would rather chuck their money into a statue to honour a dead cat.
I am actually speechless

Just a question but have the club given permission for you to do collection as I'm sure there is a waiting list for anything like this.
