Had a leaflet through my door today for The Northern Independence Party. Anyone heard of them?
Apparently they want more or less everywhere from Cheshire upwards to be an independent state called Northumbria, and go by the slogan "It's About Bloody Time". Sounds like a joke, but then so does all of politics these days.
They're standing in my council elections on May 5th. I'm tempted, I'll be honest.

Been following their national Instagram account for over a year, me.
Greet policies.
I know it’s not the national GE and it’s only local councils, but the idea of voting Labour to keep the Tories out even at GE level has collapsed for me.
There are no less than five independent candidates as well as the usual big parties all competing for two spaces representing my ward for Flintshire CC.

Wirral Council is on a knife edge really between Labour and Tory. That said, my ward West Kirby & Thurstaston is comfortably Tory (blame Thurstaston for that!) so it's not going to make much difference who I vote for. I can't remember whether you get one or two votes in council elections - if it's two I'll probably give this lot one of them.

It’s usually one but my ward has merged with another so two seats up for grabs for mine and as I said there’s loads of independent candidates appearing out of the woodwork!

They managed 84 votes in my ward, including one from me!
