Read signing for us? Are people for real? He will end up at a full time club where he will be paid three time what we would ever offer him. That one can also go in the Nugent, Jevons, Livesy box of fantasy signings.

Matt Rhead signing for us? Not a bloody chance! There are far more sides out there that would be able to meet his wage demands. Who did you hear this off? Was it the same news source of the "Michael Owen wants to Buy the Club"? We'll end up signing kids who can't get a deal elsewhere. I've accepted that, thinking we're in for players of Rhead's calibre is just setting yourselves up for disappointment when he signs for the like of Barrow or Wrexham. We can't afford the bloke. We could afford Hannah? And don't forget Alabi's pay will be coming off the wage bill, and we'll have money from Hughes and Alabi tribunals to spend. I'm pretty sure I picked up or heard somewhere that Rhead was one of the top earners at Lincoln on something like £2k per week so can't see him here. Even if it was half this I guess he's probably out of our league (literally!)

Mark Wright is going to be interviewed to be the next Southport manager. Now that really is unbelievable.

Rhead still has another year on his contract at Lincoln, so would likely take a big wedge for anyone to sign him. Some speculation that Barrow might be interested, they have been known to splash the cash so could be a more realistic move than coming to us which is surely fantasy.

Encouraging noises in the Chron from JM about going for ambitious targets. We certainly need a big signing to whip up a bit of excitement after our end to the season.
I must admit, I cannot see it being Rhead and I'm not entirely sure it'd be the best way to spend our limited resources even if it were on the cards.

Aiming high of corse is, but in the article goes on to say we've already missed a few highlighted targets, to lower league clubs none less. Part of me is worried that we're going to splash bigger money of 3-4 players and have a super thin squad where we're desperate to avoid injury else we would be playing a load of kids.

Mark Wright is going to be interviewed to be the next Southport manager. Not been a manager in England for eight years and I don't think he has ever managed a side lower than the Conference Premier. Regardless of his past achievements or ability to organise a defence, I have my doubts he'd be particularly successful if he gets the job unless he's spent a fair bit of time familiarising himself with the teams and players from that level as things have moved on quite a bit.

Rhead seems rather unlikely but I suppose you never know. I came across Cheltenham’s release list yesterday and noticed both Asa Hall and Amari Morgan-Smith on it, both of whom finished the season on loan at York. They’ve also released Jack Munns who is a really good player at this level although he has no connections to this sort of area, he’s from Dagenham in fact and probably out of our range anyway. I’m sure we’ve been linked with James Rowe before though?

Saw it coming: www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/176183/chester-fc-jon-mccarthy-aims-to-bring-four-exciting-signings-to-the-deva-stadium.aspxTo me this isn't exciting, it's risky. Pumping budget into four lads that we're going to rely on staying fit. If it goes pear shaped we'll be hearing injuries blamed from results. Could work brilliantly too on the flip side, but not what i wanted personally. Solid side, big lads, grab results and hard to beat. Last year we shipped goals after the good defensive run, mainly because JM insisted on 3 at the back.

If those 4 have a good year it gives us a chance of pushing the top half.

So happy with the Pearson signing. A 2 year deal for an experienced CB is not a bad bit of business from Keates. Onto the next quality signing..

Meanwhile we can't compete with WPL sides' financial clout - I believe we were targeting the lad Hewitt who played once for us after leaving Burnley (and who was at League Two Accrington last season) but he's just signed for Bangor.

Who else has played for us in the last 3 years who we could bring back in? What about that lad from Bournemouth who played the one game at Tranmere?

On another note I believe Jason Gilchrist from Burnley deserves another chance because he scored a couple of goals despite the injury ending his stay here.
