Bit of positive news from the club, definitely with news of him extending his playing contract.
Make him club captain too!

Similarly to Hunt, Durrell and Hudson all moving on, this announcement strikes me as a cost-cutting exercise but then again we are having to make savings anywhere we can in order to safeguard the future of the club as best we can.

Good luck to Tom but it's not really the solution to the problem I was hoping for. Shaw is one of our better players, certainly the only midfielder you fancy to win a tackle.

Agreed, big void to fill when he isn't playing. Mixed feelings but if we find a good midfielder, not BARRY! then should be a positive move.

Happy with this news. Tom has been doing coaching at Derby for a while now, in a similar role to that of Sharps at Walsall. He also holds a UEFA A license which is a plus too. The lad is very passionate for this club and whilst it may come across as another cheap option taken by the club; I'm happy with it.
Felgate has been given extra responsibilities at the club, and with him also holding a UEFA A license, I would assume he will take up the space of assistant on the touch line when Shaw plays.
Iwelumo has also been offered a new role at the club as a strikers coach. I've always firmly believed Chris is a coach, not an assistant, so I'm glad that the club appear to see this too, and have acted in offering him to be a coach. Well done to the club for that and well done for being ruthless and causing a reshuffle in the management team.

With felgates experience from Welsh set up, the more time his here the better. Made up for Shaw but needs to make sure he's got a set of balls to tell the lads what's what.

The appointment of Shaw seems like an attempt by the manager to keep himself in a job and to avoid any coup from a new external assistant if (and when) results go badly at the start of the season.
Shaw has improved greatly this season on the pitch but the club needs an experienced assistant who knows the players in this league and the other's below. Don't think Shaw has this skill set yet.
Is there going to be an appointment of a Scout because if McCarthy states that Hudson has been his best signing then we've got problems.

Tom Shaw would be a great Assistant, subject to two simple circumstances. One - his playing days are over, which isn't the case, Two - as a novice in managerial terms he can learn appropriate skills from an experienced and knowledgeable manager, which sadly we haven't got. In essence we had nobody on the books with a clue as to how to reverse the worst decline probably in Conference history, so this circumstance hasn't changed. Fresh blood is essential. Maybe McCarthy is doing the honourable thing in helping out Shaw, and providing the club with a cheap option, before he hands in his notice.

Not getting angry just very concerned about next season. Difference between anger and concern. However, this afternoon's business has lifted the gloom somewhat. 😘
