Just getting back to the game last night ( I can’t watch them penalty highlights - fuck that )
Thoughts on Stephenson again on bench and Dudley starting? Think that’ll be the last time as Dudley didn’t have much of an impact again?
Weeks was class but MOM Coates for me, he’s a find and I think he’ll go at least up a league. He’s our only outlet of width when he gets forward though which is worrying as we do get narrow at times.
Can’t wait for Saturday. Play like we did second half it’s 4-0

Can't ever remember seeing 2 players from the same team slipping like that on a penalty shoot out. And that South stand needs sorting out. It's embarrassing watching the highlights with a sell out crowd and nobody behind the goal. Wasted atmosphere and lost revenue and needs sorting out if possible. Other than that - fantastic display from the lads over both legs and looking forward to the rest of the season.

I thought we were the better side in both games, Oldham looked really good for the opening 30 minutes of both, but faded badly as the games went on. But Football isn’t about what you deserve, it’s about you get, in the league that’s points and in the cup that’s progression. We’ve come up short but they should all be immensely proud of themselves, I know I’m proud of them at least.
Thought Kev Roberts was the best player last night, he’s not the player he once was and certainly nowhere near as quick either, but he’s playing with his head and you can’t doubt the grit and determination of him. He and Burke have celebrated all the goals we’ve scored in these two games harder than anyone, he was right in front of me on Saturday when he was punching the air, the club clearly means a lot to him.
Coates was great as well, I thought he had an off day on Saturday but caused them all sorts of problems in the second half. Matty Williams started shaky but really grew in to it and Lynch was quietly effective as well I thought.
Amazing to see the buzz around the place this past week and to see the club alive and kicking like that. It shows what we can do if we really click and get it right. Hopefully some people liked what they saw and fancy a bit more of it. You really can’t beat a live game in person, if you start to feel an emotional attachment as well it’s even better.

A mention too for Tyrer. Didn't have much to do but does the basics well and has a calm authority about him. Best keeper we've had for years. I think he has a great future in the game at a higher level. When you compare him with Shenton....

That was really hard to take - no point pretending otherwise. Cannot fault the performance of anybody, they fought so hard and showed real quality, but I am so fed up of being the heroic losers. It's not a dig at anyone, we're making great strides but Jesus, it's draining supporting this club at times. Cruel. The next two games are vital. We need to stop being unlucky and start putting teams away. If we're being critical last night, we had 2 or 3 clear chances to pull away last night and weren't ruthless enough. We really need 6 points to show we mean business. Really hard to pick a MOTM, they all gave absolutely everything. You'd be hard pushed to look past Kev Roberts again, he was absolutely superb. However, I'd go for Coates - what a find he is. Agree with you about Coates it would be in our best interests to get him on a longer deal as other clubs will come sniffing towards the end of the season.

We’ve been an embarrassment in the cups under the snake oil salesmen in recent years. The new manager has put pride back in our cup performances this season. Long may it continue.

His kicking is also not great although I guess that can be coached.

Could have come out for Oldham's equaliser. Also a few times in the match the defence left an obvious 'keeper collection, and he had to be shouted at by the crowd to come out.

He'd have to be like Usain Bolt off his line to get anywhere near that.

Aye it was crossed to the back post but about 15 yards out and Fondop was climbing all over Williams anyway.
Harry Tyrer is the best keeper we’ve had since Iain Turner - no surprise given that both have come through the same PL academy.

Coates, Williams, Roberts and Lynch were brilliant. Lynch’s skill and movement for that first goal was unbelievable. Some player

Better than Turner for me, who I've never thought was as good as people remember or make out. He only made just over 100 appearances in his whole career and was usually a backup keeper. I think Tyrer will go on to better.

Fondop was nowhere near him. He'd have to be like Usain Bolt off his line to get anywhere near that. Looking back it is a terrible goal to concede. And you could point to several technical errors, positioning etc.....but FFS the lads had just played over 125 minutes full throttle against a team from a higher division. It is what it is, so hard to take, but we go again with the most likeable bunch of lads we've had for over 10 years and arguably very much longer than that. They always try their best and that's all we can ask. The FA Cup run was decent this season and Cal's team will only improve.
