Puts our terrible season into perspective.
Whatever happens we need to keep this club on an even keel. 1 season like York's would set us back a decade.
We may struggle for a few seasons, but we will still be in with the opportunity to progress if the Managers and players click.

Unsustainable, and unfortunately they have now to saddle that debt in the Conf North. Will not be easy in there with Salford, Stockport, Kiddy et al making a run at promotion.
We should never risk the long term sustainability of our club.

It just goes to show, that you can throw a 'shedload' of money at it and still end up with nothing to show for it. With the right set of players, a decent manager and some funds to bring players, in January. (Even on loan))) The playoffs may be in reach, even for a club with limited resources. Macclesfield seem to make a decent fist of it every season.

Not sure if they ever did get new owners, but the infamous Bob Gray cup run they had certainly helped them that season.

You do wonder quite how they've managed that. Already one of the best supported teams in the Conference, and I presume they'd have got a parachute payment from dropping out of League Two last year, plus a bit of money from their FA Trophy run. All that, and they've still needed to run up a £300K loss just to get relegated.
I sometimes think Macca's got a point that staying up is an achievement in itself for Chester, it's just that the way we collapsed after Christmas is so disappointing and we need to recognise that unless things change we're a wooden-spoon team at the moment.

From googling it the loss being reported now is for 2015-16 when they were relegated out of the Football League, not for this season. I'll be interested to see how their figures stack up this season given the wages spent on Parkin etc.

We should be staying up comfortably in this league on average gates of 2000,sponsored stands and ground etc,it was embarrassing that Torquay and Woking finished above us,but that's where we are with this manager.

Sadly attendances are becoming less and less related to performance. If Forest Green had 50 fans for each game it would make very little difference to their budget and results. Being fan owned we need average gates of 2000 just to compete in this league, and sadly not enough of our fans are prepared to put their hand in their pocket and contribute to fundraising initiatives. League position is not decided on average gates.

The season before, they averaged 2,600, which was only a few hundred more than us.

It was fantastic to see their fans at our away game, really brilliant night despite the result, and we should have had a point if not for the Joyce error. Great atmosphere and a deserved promotion.

I've a feeling they might do alright in the FL though. They've been easily the best side in this division I think, and if it weren't for the Cup run they'd have wrapped it up a lot sooner.

The business plan for a fan owned club is totally different to one "owned" by one or two ambitious individuals. So please don't compare apples with oranges, we have to work within our very limited income and so far so good, with a number of narrow squeaks!

Agreed . dont recall any registration or admin errors when we had a volunteer in the role Even if we did have, we have a CEO to approve these sorts of things if needs be. Admittedly it's not the role of a CEO to do so, but if it was to save a wage it would be worth it.

League position is not decided on average gates. Ridiculous to think the issue is because people won't donate. Worse than Bob Grays decent cup run comment actually. By the time you've parked, had a pint and a shit pie and tergid coffee you've spent £30 to watch a match at the Deva. Regardless of the performance on the pitch that is very expensive and it's no wonder more and more people are turning away. I actually think in this current economy where companies are racing each other to freeze wages until the minimum wage catches up with them, refusing to offer full time contracts and refusing to honour existing full time contracts, it's hardly fair to expect people to have a spare £30 a week to throw at the shocking match day experience on offer at the ground, with the tannoy cranked up to the painful point of distortion and very little in the way of comfort or facilities, let alone to then blame those who are left for not chucking enough extra in the pot just because the club needs it. The whole of football is fucked because of this, not just our club, but when the club's stated aim is to be a pillar of the community whilst playing at the highest level possible, we've already failed that aim at the point when you price the majority of the community out on the basis that it's what you have to charge to be competitive at the level we're at.

P.S. not wanting to start another piegate ha ha Would echo that it is the price of modern day football, it isn't just Chester overcharging. If you want to see any conference game you're looking at the same, or very similar pricing. You think are pies are bad? A burger and chips from a van in Lincolns ground was £6.50 and it was like a rustlers micro burger. I think the price of football is steep, but its a luxury not an essential and getting the casual fans in with these prices will always be difficult for any club. I think that's what makes it so frustrating to see us spending money on staff that arguably aren't needed as said above. We push for revenue and more fans all we like, but when the basics are set up wrong, it really does put people off going. I think many people feel that our club has lost it's ''our club'' feeling this last 12 month or so and it shows with the attendances, not helped by the shambolic football from Christmas.

I think the key argument would be that it costs £18 to sit in the main stand. £30 is just how much you're saying it costs you as an individual. It's a persons choice whether he/she has a pie/coffee at the game. If you can't afford it, you don't buy it. I agree the price of football is expensive, but it's bound to happen. The price of everything has risen over the last 10 years, wouldn't even be surprised for the price to rise to £20 over the next few years.

The price of everything has risen over the last 10 years, wouldn't even be surprised for the price to rise to £20 over the next few years. It would be a financial own goal if Chester increased admission to £20 next season. Indeed. As someone whose been made redundant twice in the last 5 years, having been forced to accept a flexi contract yet expected to work 6 of even 7 days a week at the click of a finger, I'm very much at the point where I can't afford the £18 any longer let alone the other costs. I will admit that I'm an exile for whom the parking and the cost of sustenance are more of a necessity than an optional extra. I think the key argument though is that the silent majority of stay aways are probably in the same position as me, priced out. Rental prices have risen, the ability to get on the ladder has fallen, as have wages and terms of employment. This affects people in their 20's-30's more so than older and younger fans for a variety of reasons, but there is a huge problem with the pricing of football. Not that I would, but there are prem and championship teams with similar admission prices. To state that the fault of the playing budget lies with the great fans who do turn up is a shocking statement to make, at the cost involved, most will surely be making big sacrifices elsewhere to afford to go. Then to see an argument about foul language on an adult football forum coupled with a weird attempt at grammar Nazism gain traction just goes to show that some have their heads buried in the sand as regards the real problems that the club and others are facing. I'm not even having a go at the club here, the majority of these issues arent ones the club have control over, some of course are, im merely highlighting the true issues affecting the attendance.
