Stupid question......if we get 150k for Sam Hughes why is it we can not not afford higher wages and pick up some decent released players i.e. Livesey from Barrow I don't get it we have no debt and if JM was given an additional 100k for example and needed to pay an additional £250pw wages to get a proper big player, then that's 250 x 40 weeks =10k per additional per player, surly JM could afford an add 5 players and still have change left over?

And then what happens the season after, when we have to tell those five players that they have to accept reduced contracts or leave because there's now no Sam Hughes money to pay their wages with?

Chances are they would only be here for one season anyway.

I think you may be underestimating what the better players in the national league earn.
Didn't Ross Hannah tipple his Money going to Barrow, so its a good assumption that Livesey would be on at least 3 times what we would offer as a standard Wage

Chances are they would only be here for one season anyway. So is it worth it then? Blowing all that money for a handful of slightly better players who will be gone in a year's time?

Big gamble then. Look how much Barrow and Eastleigh are spending and they didn't make the top five.
Better to develop the club gradually. A top half finish would be a start.

Budget alone is never going to get the job done. You need stability and a good youth programme together with a good measure of luck, or at least good fortune.

The club have already come out and said McCarthy will be getting a bigger budget for next season.
Where is the money coming from to do this as I suspect season tickets sales will be poor due to McCarthy staying.

Previous prudence in running the club means we have more capital stored away 'for a rainy day' so we don't need to save as much.
There is increased income anticipated from such initiatives as the managed car boot sales.
There is a reduction in the cost of team travel through better rates with hotels.
There is anticipated cash from Alabi and Hughes.
All of these, and more, add up to a bit more cash available for the team.
I doubt the club is budgeting for lower season ticket sales.

Yes if it gave us a top 5 finish Good to dream and I suppose Braintree showed it could be done with a really good manager. Financial prudence is the most sensible way forward though or we won't even have a club.
