I see Twitter has got rid of verification ticks for any account that isn't a paid Twitter Blue subscriber, including Chester FC.
Quite right that we're not funding Musk's cash grab here. I'd like to see football clubs and players stop bothering with Twitter, both for this and because he's not remotely interested in dealing with abuse on the site. Twitter has become useful for match updates but there's no reason why clubs can't set up a live feed on their own sites.
It's sad that anyone with enough money can buy one of the biggest websites on the internet and use it for rip-offs and his own in-jokes. I don't get this weird little army of online fanboys he seems to have either. I'm glad his spaceship blew up.

I've never used Twitter so don't understand what these ticks are or why you have to pay for them and glad to see the Club isn't spending money on this, to be honest I get all the updates of matches I need from Blueslive and if I cannot tune in then Flashscore is an excellent service

The ticks traditionally show that an account actually belongs to the person or company it says it does, so for example if someone else were to set up an account called "Chester FC", you would know that it was fake because the real one has a blue tick.
Musk now wants users to pay $8 a month to have a blue tick next to their name. His excuse is some bollocks about bot accounts and how blue tick accounts get too much prominence, which makes no sense. The blue ticks are for the benefit of general users rather than account holders themselves, as they indicate that you're engaging with a genuine account, so it makes the experience of using the site much poorer in my opinion. This applies to not only modest names like Chester FC, but huge celebrities like Ronaldo and Beyonce.

I've noticed all Prem and EFL teams have gold ticks which states these are official organisations but the catch to get this tick on your account will cost you 12k a year!! Something will have to be done for Clubs with significant followers as I've already seen an account impersonate Fylde on there.

Twitter is a cesspit of a place, has been for years. Unfortunately the best place to get proper instant updates for lower league sports. Facebook is dreadful for that kind of thing and apps like Livescores only give the score/cards and no match details at our level.

Why doesn't Lobster create his or her online utopia like Twitter instead then?
Twitter is the worst of social media way before Elon Musk brought it

The platform you like is being run in a manner you now don't like.
A. Why are you still using it? B. Why not create your own you can then run in a manner you do like

There is good content to be found on Twitter, but you tend to have to wade through a lot of crap to get to it - some of it very unpleasant.
One thing I’m increasingly seeing on Twitter that sums up the negatives of the place is that if somebody sees another person post a view they don’t agree with, they’ll go on their profile and find a picture of them to screenshot so they can mock their appearance - branding them a virgin, paedo etc. Not exactly good-natured banter.
I guess to the younger generation message boards seem old hat, but I find them a preferable means of communication.
