When an incompetent duo take a club to the brink of relegation they should be sacked. As usual Chester FC shot themselves in the foot and kept on a virgin manager, opting to only sack Burr. The desired recoil reaction by the team resulted in three good wins to survive the scare. Last August we had an inexperienced manager who caused concern in a significant number of fans, but with only a one year contract at least he had to work hard to prove himself capable. Ably assisted by Sharps some good results were achieved. Sharps left, and something very smelly clearly hit the fan - why? It continued for the whole of 2017, so not exactly a brief loose motion!. The real question on this thread should perhaps be "Why has the idiot who wholly unnecessarily gave McCarthy a two and a half year contract not been sacked yet?" Contract duly signed, financial security assured, and devoid of motivation, McCarthy tried the impossible in attempting relegation from sitting in seventh position. With only four months to do it he almost succeeded, only two points too many. If only he had another one more game to lose he would have got us relegated and inevitably sacked. Unfortunate Jon - you now have to actually work for your wages for the next two years. No handsome payoff for you!

To suggest he hasn't been working hard and has been unmotivated is unfair I think. It was a terrible second half of the season but I don't think it was for the want of trying on his part.
I do fear that we're just delaying the inevitable by sticking with him, and will be playing catchup halfway through the season as a result. I was coming round to the idea that it might not be so bad if McCarthy had an experienced assistant alongside him but the appointment of Tom Shaw as assistant is not the solution I was hoping for. He needs to be on the pitch, and if he's on the pitch he's not the dugout presence McCarthy needs. As always I believe in giving people a fair chance and I hope it works, but it's hard to have anything more than blind faith.

In all fairness, Sharps has no assistant experience and seemingly did a good job for us as everyone now thinks he is a messiah that carried JM. Shaw knows the players, he should know their strengths and weaknesses and no doubt will want to work hard having seen the opportunity that has come to Sharps. Great platform for him, hopefully it will work out.

Lobster - I think we are singing from th same song sheet. McCarthy was probably working very hard, which in some ways makes it even more tragic. Clearly his hard work has been to no good effect since Christmas, and to take your point, this is when an experienced assistant can bring this to the fore and help get back to basics. Left unchecked, as was the case since Christmas, almost proved disastrous. His stubbornness in his signing of wrong players and opting for fanciful systems has hopefully added much needed experience to his mindset. In all sports they say you always learn much more from mistakes, so let's hope this is the case here. In an ideal world wouldn't it be nice if he quietly moved on elsewhere as an Assistant Manager to continue his education. Keeping him was a shot in the foot, and his long contract extension was another. Let's hope this failure to get a forceful and experienced assistant isn't another shot because both feet are already gone.

The club should of gone for experience IMO.

However i honestly think Shaw will do okay in the role, it's more about if JM recruits the right players for me. Whether he will remains to be seen, but i wouldn't let Shaws age be of concern, just look at Julian Nagelsmann.

LOL No I'm not a fan but he is a friend and a human being and as I wouldn't call him an idiot to his face, neither would call him one on a forum either. The person you should be attacking is the man/group who were naive enough to give him an idiotic contract extension.

Why hasn't this idiot been sacked yet ? If he starts next season with us we will be relegated. McCarthy was clever enough to announce his retained list Straight away, and also a new signing. This took all the Attention off him, as people were more interested in talking about who'd been released and what the new lad was like - the perfect smokescreen.

I agree, ban Whopper et al !
Seriously I am fed up with bad mouthing critics of the club pretending to be supporters.
I am all for erudite supporters criticising the decisions and performances of the club and team, but as soon as some one at the club is called an idiot, liar and worse I've had enough.

But the Whoppers never have anything good to say about the club. Perhaps their names give a clue as to their authenticity as Chester fans?
