Anybody been following the progress of this club in the North West Counties League Div 1. In their first season in existence they have won promotion via the play offs with a win over Litherland REMYCA in front of a crowd of 1300, quite amazing for step 6 of non-league. They have also won the Reusch and Macron cups whatever they might be. It is fan owned in the model of FC Utd but they don't seem to take it too seriously. I have been to watch them a couple of times and it's a good day out. THey play in purple for obvious reasons.

I think they have beaten a local club Whitchurch Alport in the play off too.

I think AFC Liverpool are still kicking around too, but I don't think they've been as successful as they'd hoped

I do wonder what impact the emergence of a club like that is having on the other non-league sides in that area. A loyal Marine fan won't stop going to watch them because of City of Liverpool FC but would someone who pops down every so often to Marine and doesn't live in Crosby now opt to go to the new club instead?

I have similar thoughts to that myself. I suppose anyone getting involved in the non-league game is good, but if you're priced out of the Premier League there are plenty of non-league clubs in and around Liverpool. Why not go and watch Marine, Prescot, Bootle, Litherland, Skem, St. Helens, Cammell Laird etc?

Yes it's a good point and there are many clubs at that level in the area: Prescot Cables, Bootle, Litherland , St Helens Town, Widnes who could all do with more support; but I suppose people are attracted to a new venture, which if they were to get their own ground [they currently share with Bootle] has considerable potential. More importantly they are raising the profile of non-league football and bonus pay days to other clubs like we did when we were in the Evo-Stiks. There is an attraction in being involved in a groundswell of opposition to the commercialisation of top tier football.

I think they have beaten a local club Whitchurch Alport in the play off too. They share with Bootle. Me and Dragonslayer went to see them when they played Whitchurch Alport in a league game and Whitchurch (ave attendeance last season 83) had a crowd of 643. The standard last season was the highest it's ever been in NWCL1. City of Liverpool finished last season with an average crowd of around 450. The league had 22 teams, which was the first time that it had had it's full compliment in recent years. There has never really been promotion from it's feeder leagues (Cheshire League, Manchester League, etc) as teams struggle to meet the ground grading, but I suspect that sugar daddies are operating even at this level. All in all good for non-league and I think we only paid £3 to get in although there were some gobby scousers in attendance.
