Try the Garden Quarter. You'll get a little more for your money than Hoole and you're walking distance to town, the river and the ground. Or even Garden Lane as it was known when I was a lad....before it became a "quarter" WTF is that nonsense all about?? At least it has a name now, as a kid I always struggled to tell people which part of Chester I was from as it didn't have a name.

Avoid Handbridge, they don't know how to drive around there! There’s a property in prime position just come available by the bridge in Handbridge looking over the river! It’s really cheap too. Catch - no private parking. Doesn’t look like there’s parking in immediate vicinity either. Exciting that we’ll be ready to view houses in a couple of weeks so ones coming available now could be a potential new home! To get back on topic, I see there’s standing available at the Deva. In two areas? Is there not resident parking by permit bought from the council? check their web site .

My dad was born in Mill Street by the bridge. Two cottages there now were once four cottages so half the size and tiny. My dad was youngest of 11. May have been overcrowded but what a playing field in front!!! My mum was from Hoole. Never thought those two areas would be so sought after years ago. I'm from Flookersbrook. What a brilliant name for an area and a great place.

That cottage by the river went within a day it seems. It would have been too small for all our stuff. Great location though with patio overlooking the river. It was well under budget too. But that’s explained by no parking and size.

We’re hoping to view 4 houses this Friday! Two in Boughton, one in Hoole and one just outside the wall in the north east of the city.

I don't believe that you have given a budget for your new home....and your exact spec for the house and other priorities. Distance from the ground I assume is top of your requirements.

Quite a few bungalows gone up for sale in Saughall this past couple of weeks.
Only problem is you are knackered if you want to nip out for a pint Sunday while Wednesday!

Boughton is great, really handy for town and the best boozer for a sunny pint The Mount😊 I’ve been meaning to ask about pubs. I mainly drink the pale ale. I’m quite fond of all the new micro breweries popping up everywhere. We have a really good one in Holmfirth - Magic Rock.

Monday and Tuesday the Edge now shuts at 8, the Greyhound, 8.30-9.00 depending on how many are in, (and the Hound will just close randomly and send you packing if you are the only one in) Wednesday/ Thursday the Edge 10.00. Personally I don't really go out until about 8.30-9.00 so the local pubs now not much use to me.

Pubs are a bit of a personal choice really, and it think that choice changes with the age of the people you are asking. Personally I am well past "trendy, overpriced pubs" so tend to drink in the "backwater pubs" but these are becoming fewer and fewer. For something different give the Little Albion a go (I am assuming it is still open and the same as it always was, not been there for years)

We’ve just put in our application to rent the house in Hoole we viewed yesterday! So we could be living in Chester in a couple of weeks! Nice one , hope it all works out for you and the family , its a good area . At one time, Hoole was a ‘genuine’ place to live with ‘genuine’ residents. Now it’s a pretentious and chi-chi upshot area with the newcomers having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive or important than they really are!!!

You can call it gentrification or whatever, but good old ‘Hooleigans’ are being displaced in this. I also doubt that you Frank have rarely stepped foot out of Macot, Sandycroft, Sychdyn, Northrop et al or anywhere connected to the A5119 other than for work or pleasure!!!
