Expected to sign a new contract! 😥
No idea how he's earned a new deal, spends most of time injured or suspended!

If it's on reduced wages it's not bad signing. He can cover few positions and can tackle. If it's on the same wage or god forbid more than last season McCarthy has lost it even more than I first thought.

I imagine it would be slightly reduced or similar. He is desperate for a good pre-season and a run of games to get his sharpness back that he did have at Southport. Since his injury problems he's been a shadow of the player they had.

It's still unfathomable to me that he was the Conference player of the year the season before we signed him. Surely this is one of the enigmas/mysteries of the 21st century. Perhaps Macca thinks he will return to his Southport form next season.

I am sure he's had a lower offer than his current terms. Players performances, and what we see as their ability is not fixed, they have good seasons and bad, for all sorts of reasons; fitness, personal motivation, team tactics, position....
I think he will be motivated if he resigns as he knows the fans haven't seen the player we thought we were buying. If we do see a better season from him, like the improvements we got in Shaw and Hunt then it will be a good deal.
If not, I suppose many will blame Macca.
I would give him another go, we could do worse in the marketplace ( and often have)

Whatever we're offering him it's too much I think. Always injured, often suspended and rarely any better than mediocre on the rare occasions he plays.
It sends out completely the wrong message if someone like him can get a new contract.

Big name players "released" (having contract offers pulled from them) and the cheap fodder kept on.

If you're on a tight budget, why offer contracts to players with such a track record of injury and underperformance? I could've come up with more of an argument for keeping Killock than him. At least we know Killock can play well.

always being quoated in local papers about how much he's buying into philosophy that john mcarthy's putting across and macca does this and macca's the bee's knees, obviously ability doesn't count , its all about being rewarded for kissing arse, he shouldn't be anywhere near the club, injured, suspended, a 3 legged dog with fleas, get rid
