With Nathan Woodthorpe making his competitive debut for us today, how many fathers and sons have we had who have both played competitively for the blues?
I can think of 3, any more?
- Colin and Nathan Woodthorpe - Carl and Tom Ruffer (did Tom Ruffer end up playing a competitive game?) - Gary and Andy Shelton
Any others?

Can't think of any others. If we're including friendlies and exhibition games, Terry and Michael Owen, and I seem to remember Graham Barrow's son turning out for us once.

Albert Harley and his son Lee both played for Chester albeit Lee only appeared once as a substitute. Albert’s brother Les also played for The Blues. Other brothers that played were the Futchers.

How has nobody mentioned Gordon and Sam Hill yet?
Tried to erase from memories? Bleak times weren’t they.

Fair point, still deserved a mention as a tenuous contribution.

Fair point, still deserved a mention as a tenuous contribution. If we're including managers, there's also Keith and Tom Curle.

I remember Tom Curle’s shot from the edge of the box going out for a throw-in away at Barnet.

Brothers I can think of: Nathan and Lewis Turner Michael and Stephen Rose We had Chris O'Brien and Mick O'Brien in the same team at one time but I don't think they were related? Plus two sons of a former chairman who shall remain nameless.

Gavin Lang, who scored on his only appearance for Chester at Swindon in the FA Cup, was the son of a player (also called Gavin I think) who’d made a few appearances for the club in the 1950s.
Doubt there’s ever been such a long gap between a father and son playing for us than with the Woodthorpes anyway - almost 34 years now since Colin last played for Chester.

Yeah, normally you'd expect it to be an aging player and his teenage son (like with the Sheltons) but Colin was 17 when he made his debut for us whereas Nathan is 22.

We had 2 fullbacks Ray Jones and Bryn Jones not related in the same team and both ended up with broken legs in the same game v Aldershot in the 60s

Deane and Dom Smalley can be added to the list of brothers who played together for the club, while David and Scott McNiven both played for us but at different times.

Expanding it a little, Gary Shelton's live in partner when they lived in Saughall (can't recall her name) was employed in an admin / secretarial role at the club. Ok, very tenuous 🙂
