Came across this interview with Luke recently. Apologies if previously raised.
I think he comes across as a decent bloke. It was interesting to hear how he could’ve left us earlier through not being paid but didn’t want to let Ratcliffe down. So close to staying up that last year which would’ve been impossible without his goals.
Bit of a hero of mine. I’d only just started supporting us around the time he signed.

Cheers for that, will have a listen later. He was brilliant at Chester, and if we were better run ('kin Terry Smith) he would have stayed on to become more of a cult hero than he is. Never forget a night where he murdered Port Vale at Vale Park almost single handedly. A right handful. Also remember him at a CCISA do in the United Services club in town as being a genuinely nice guy.

Guy was an assassin in front of goal. Such a shame we never got to really see him develop that promising partnership with Murph.

Obviously left under a bit of a cloud with the whole contract scandal at Chesterfield but I’d question how much he actually knew about that.
Was absolute class for us during two rough seasons.

Slower than an asthmatic snail but great finisher

Slower than an asthmatic snail but great finisher His lack of pace was what stopped him playing higher. Basically a 20-30 goal striker in the bottom two leagues for his whole career. I'm not sure you really get strikers like him and Steve Whitehall any more who are just consistently prolific lower league scorers. Today they either get snapped up early by bigger clubs and they either make it or they don't, or you get ones like Mullin who are being paid wheelbarrows of cash to play below their level.

To have scored as many as he did in the year we went down shows how good he was. A proper battling hustling centre forward.

Andy Cook one of them

Just a pity because of the circus surrounding the club at the time ,that we never really got to see, a prolonged run of the Beckett/Murphy partnership . Radcliffe at the time was developing a good young side and like Barrow, I thought he had the potential to manage higher. Not sure what went wrong for him at Shrewsbury? Where relegation effectively ended his managerial career. Also, Barrow found it difficult to repeat his early success here with other clubs and I thought he was nailed on to make a big impact and become a really successful manager
