At risk of being accused of wallowing in the past, I'm told by a friend who supports Fulham that on this day in 1987 we beat them 5-0 at Craven Cottage. It's getting mentioned on their forums in the build up to their LC semi final tonight. Been to the Cottage a few times to see us but wasn't at that one. Anyone remember it?

Amazing they only managed a home crowd of 3,067 on that day. I still have the Chester Chronicle cutout from that game headlined 'LONDON BLITZ' - Great days

Beat them 7-0 at home in around 1988, there goalkeeper was a bloke called jim stannard, recall having a chat with him about that game a few years ago in the pub down the steps from euston, he was with john still, they were manager and assistant of dagenham and redbridge at the time and they had just beat us 2-0 in an early game on a saturday before christmas, he talked fondly of all the banter he was getting at old sealand road as he kept picking the ball out of net, some great london trips in them days, fulham, orient, brentford were regular trips,

Remember that game well. We decided to go at quarter to twelve. Drove down there, gave the Capri some hammer down the motorway, 90 all the way! Got to the end of the M1 just before 3 o'clock, then 40 minutes to go the last seven miles. Parked outside the away end and got in 5 minutes before half time. Asked how the game was going and was told it was 0-0 and shit.
They came out second half and put five in the net we were behind. I just seem to remember all the forwards queing up to score, should have been more.
After the game we drove up to Watford and went for steaks at the Ponderosa restaurant (it was just like the one that used to be on Foregate Street.)

Yes, was at that game, spent a couple of hours in the Northgate Pub then headed for the coach, would have been Terry Vickers coach in them days. Apart from the game my abiding memory is that the coach didn't stop until well down the M1 and I was busting!! Very few of us on the away end for a completely unexpected result.

Can't seem to find a match report...who scored for us in the 87 game? Loving that you went in a Capri then went to a restaurant called Ponderosa😁. Sure that wasn't 1977? Trust you raised a glass of Babycham. If you left Chester at 1145 these days you'd probably be somewhere on the M6 at Birmingham, stuck in traffic, by ko time.

Graham Barrow and Gary Bennett. On December 19th only 1,706 watched our home game against Chesterfield which puts the crowd at Fulham in a bit more perspective re Jayhawks post.

Remember it more than most games over the years (where sadly most are just a blur). Yes 0-0 at half time and I remember John Kelly running rings around them in the second half.
But two off the pitch things stick in the mind.
The day before that match I had parked opposite the House of Commons in Westminster and when I returned to my car after a meeting there was a copper standing by my car (this was three years after the miners strike during which I has been wrongly arrested on a food collection by officers of the Met (£400 costs against the police and no case to answer), so I was braced for trouble). I of course immediately went into indignant rage mode as I was sure I had fed the meter etc. He adopted the usual 'Hello sir is this your vehicle.....' to which I replied gruffly. 'yes'. He then went on to say, 'and sir is this your sticker in the back window (a Chester sticker)?'. I replied even more indignantly, 'Yes'. He surely wasn't going to arrest me for that! He then held out his hand and said, 'Great to meet another Chester fan, see you at Fulham tomorrow....'
The second thing I will never forget (shows how long standing our miserable element have been). After the fith Chester goal flew in someone behind me said to his mate, 'Wow, 5-0 this has been worth the trip' - to which his mate replied, '5-0, 5-0. Rubbish - should have been at least 8....' - not a hint of irony I swear.

Yes İ remember that game. We got the train down and had a amble around before the match. A crazy second half, one I'll never forget. What a team we had in those days.

Looking at the results for that season, we only won one of our first 15 league matches (following promotion) but eventually finished comfortably in mid table with 13 league wins. Also went to R4 of the FA Cup, including a famous win at the Racecourse (and another in the Full Members Cup). Average home attendance 2710. Remarkable really that we are not too far off that now, when you factor in away fans from the likes of Bolton, Middlesbrough etc.

Both Sheffield clubs, Palace, Brighton, Cardiff and lots of quite local Lancashire / Yorkshire clubs. A friend of mine from Coventry came up to visit and I took him to Chester / Sheff Utd, sure we won 3-2 with Trevor Phillips playing a blinder up front. His first Chester game and he loved it, at night who did we bump into in the wine bar in Mercia Square (forget the name) but Trevor Phillips, my mate was in awe!!

Quite an eventful season, that. Came agonisingly close to reaching Wembley in the Full Members Cup and also featured the horror tackle by Bennett on Ian Knight, in an FACup replay, which broke his leg in seven places. Knight later sued Chester City. One of the worst tackles you will ever see.

Think Bennett thought he would be judge and juror!

Think Bennett thought he would be judge and juror! Was only two minutes into the game. Think Bennett, who was a trier rather than a naturally gifted player, was reckless but not malicious. Reminds me a bit of the Gascoigne challenge in the FA Cup Final, although he obviously injured himself. A player who was so hyped up he lost control. Case was settled out of court - first time one player had sued another for an on pitch injury.

7-0 at Sealand Road, 5-0 at Craven Cottage and 1-0 at Moss Rose. Remember all vividly.

My dad tells me of another victory over Fulham a few years later, which saw their supporters turn on then-manager Alan Dicks with predictable, though nonetheless amusing, cries of ‘Dicks out’.

7-0 at Sealand Road, 5-0 at Craven Cottage and 1-0 at Moss Rose. Remember all vividly. I remember a 2-0 at Moss Rose too. The 1-0 game was payed in driving rain and I was one of a few loons who stayed behind the goal. The Fulham players were at each other all game and I remember Phil Stant threatening someone and then getting into it with Dave Pugh, so I gave him some verbals from about 3 yards away and got a 'death stare' from him - that fella was scary....former SAS! Can't believe I missed the 7-0 though. My mates went on about that for years.

I remember watching us at Fulham, but missed that particular game. Remember checking out the nearby church by the Thames which was the film location in The Omen where the priest gets spiked into the ground when lightning strikes the top of the steeple. No such misfortunes for us. I remember an old Fulham fan coming up to us saying "You Chistah? You Chistah? Let me shake your hands, faacking heroes, facking 'eroes!"
