It's a fair point but i still don't understand the problem. If we're looking at a new website, why would we invest time and possibly money (at least in wages) in updating a site that is to become dormant. It's really easy to e-mail the 'fans@chester' address and get a fairly quick answer as to when the fixtures are taking place and if there will be any official list updated to the website. If the CEO was updating the club website, i'd be asking questions...it's nothing to do with that role. While procurement isn't either, and i know he does come of that, i think updating the website is surely a marketing issue. Perhaps the GM can be questioned on this as you's think he would 'manage' the situation. I do think however, after some really positive news with Sam Hughes, this seems a little petty to rant at the CEO. Posting on DevaChat won't always get the answers you're looking for, so to be proactive and e-mail the club isn't too tough. There could be others with similar questions, so information received back could be relayed to help others too.

It is definitely the CEO's job to ensure the club is marketed honestly and with current information. All those who represent the club in an official capacity are accountable to the CEO who should ensure such representation is truthful. If the current website remains accessible it should be endorsed as a work in progress. In not, delete it until such times as the new version is available. Any lay person would assume an official site provided current information for the purposes of making a decision. Chester FC should be honoured that anyone visits their website in the first place, and accept it may only be a fleeting visit. If they don't like what they see then that's the end of a possible new fan. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression as they say in marketing.

Guys, just a quick word about the moderation on here. As has been mentioned this isn't my full time job, or others, I am on my lunch break now and just catching up, like most do I am sure. There have been some pretty crass comments on here from an individual that although most disagree with they are not overly aggressive or overly disgusting, they are distasteful and perhaps a little vulgar at best.
It is his opinion and the way he expressed it might not be to everyone's taste, he has been warned in the past about his language and I will send another PM now.
Please help us though to moderate, report posts you find offensive and we can deal with them, however please DO NOT QUOTE the post, this makes it even harder to moderate and you are just duplicating the offending post. When this is done multiple times, as is on this occasion, the only course of action we can take is to delete the thread, otherwise it takes us forever to go through each post and edit or delete. Many thanks

Many thanks Thanks mate, just to add to this I am also catching up on my lunch hour and saw that there had been some reported posts. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism but please think about how you word your frustrations. The first opportunity I get to log on the DC is on my lunch hour and then I'll check fairly regularly during the evening, but we do action posts as we feel appropriate as soon as we can so bear with us if we don't get straight to it.

Let's hang fire for a minute. The media lads travel to EVERY away game all around the country to provide those who can't go online coverage of the games, whether that's via Twitter or BluesLive. All young lads who are either studying or working full-time jobs. They provide updates when required and are exemplary in their professionalism, representing our football club and how they go about their work. The fact is, FLi, who own and run the platform for the current website, have over the last 6 months made life very difficult for non-league clubs using their platform. The decision to ditch anything below the football league was theirs and theirs only, before changing their minds but holding non-leagues clubs to ransom with ludicrous financial demands to stay with their service.
I agree that to prospective supporters it doesn't look great at the moment, but then you can only work with what you have got. The fact is the new website will be 100% controlled by the football club, with content and layout personalised to our own spec. I'm not quite sure what has got one or two people so hot under the collar; maybe there has been some far to positive news for them to handle in recent weeks, but the fact is the club have listened to supporter feedback and will be providing a service next season that will rival most league and Premiership clubs.

Couldn't really put it any better, too many good signings and people have to look to take the club down a few pegs. Who needs rival fans to come on here and wind us up, when we have our own fans to do a good job of it.

Have you reported it? That's what I tend to do and I usually find posts are removed within a few hours. Moderating Devachat is not the mods' full-time job. Report me for what? Having an opinion? No, for being insulting and just plain nasty. It's trolls like you that get the internet a bad name for the decent people (unlike you) who want to use it responsibly.

Alan, with respect, this is the first time I've read of the facts. Maybe if the club was more transparent, the fans who are critising now would be more patient, and less critical going forward?

Yes because that makes sense....you know as the old saying goes....Guilty until proven innocent. Oh no wait? I see your point but i don't think we should all quickly jump on the club without having the facts first.

I'm not saying anyone is guilty, just pointing out that it takes a former CFU CEO to come on here and give us FACTS! Yeah, it's a communication issue i don't deny that. I just think there are some that are so quick to criticise the club for every little thing without those facts Alan provided. I don't think because the club haven't told us something we should then start flying at them with accusations, which is what i meant by the sarcastic Guilty until proven Innocent comment. This isn't aimed at yourself this post, but there are some guilty of that.

In all seriousness, we can't expect a CEO or paid employee to come out in public and admit they made a big mistake like the website, cos they'd be hung drawn and quartered... but for critical info such as the stuff posted by Alan above to come out AFTER his employment had ended with the club, it really doesn't paint us in a good light with many fans.

I think its a valid point that whilst the new site is not yet up and running the existing site must still be utilised in full because it will be the first port of call for many web users, current Chester fans or not.

Load of new promising signings, Community Trust winning awards.
Yet people will always find something to moan about.

Bury your head in the sand if you want, whatever makes you happy. Anyway, i hope the new website is everything it's supposed to be, then there won't be any moaning from anyone.

It's not 'burying your head in the sand'. It's realising that this issue definitely does not warrant criticising the club and its volunteers. Perhaps send a message on the website informing them of this? Contact someone in the media team? As others have said, there's plenty going on with signings, new website and other things getting ready for the new season. Most of which is done by volunteers (who work full-time elsewhere).

All I'm asking for is better communication, we've got Alan coming clean on here about past mistakes and telling people to stop moaning.
All I was doing was pointing out why people were moaning ffs.
We've made some great signings, financially we are good and there's a new website on the way, but by god we can improve communication. Those are facts and there isn't enough positive spin you can put on that to make me forget about the communication issue. Ok?

In regards to the FLi contract, it was done with the best of intentions and whilst it was setup long before I and others now on the board, the general consensus is that it was there to help provide the club with extra income. Unfortunately I didn't actually know definitely at this time how much money it has raised; generally through adverts and BluesLive, but I think the whole concept was sold as something else entirely by the website owners.
Thinking back though, I am 99% certain that Neil Bellis spoke about the FLi contract at a CFU meeting back in February, and it was just prior to this that FLi offered ludicrous terms for us to continue using their platform after they had u-turned. MBNA have been helping to develop the website too, again discussed within the same meeting, so hopefully their expertise will help the media lads produce and maintain a quality site we can be proud of. Whilst I have no experience of adding content to the site, over recent months FLi made it very difficult for us update it.
I can assure people that I don't see it as my place to be the bearer of news from the board; from the day I left I too no longer became privy to anything ongoing, so I can only provide information up until the point I stood down. I am confident though that once the new website is up and running and the new initiatives that accompany it are live, it will be well communicated. There's no big secret about things and they are moving, it's just until there is something to report in detail, it would just be a waste of everybody's time if it was a half-arsed effort.
