As was the case in times gone by people got their surnames from the job they did.. Butcher, Carpenter, Cooper, Gardener etc.
Makes me wonder what job the Futchers did?

The name Futcher arrived in Britain with The Norman’s via Germany. Futcher derives from Folk or People Army - over one thousand years ago the name was relatively common in Lincolnshire and Derbyshire areas.

Sidebottom Shufflebottom Winterbottom Lord knows what they did for a job! Think surnames with "bottom" in them come from where people lived, e.g. the bottom of a hill. Surnames containing "Fitz" normally mean someone was an illegitimate child.
