If we play 5 at the back i'll be seriously hacked off! It didnt work at all last year and we don't have the centre backs ha ha. At least 4-4-2 we know our jobs and it worked with Sharps the messiah! Whoosh - look at your previous post and you will understand eyeswideopen's comment Christ....let's just say it's been a looooong morning in the office with the aircon not working.

Not sure if it's my imagination, but can't Dawson also play centre back? (Not sure that this would be the best option if so though!) As for the centre mid back up stuff - Joyce is surely behind Shaw too? I know he's taking more a back seat this season, but I can still see Shaw playing 30-35 games this year. If Shaw played 30-35 it would meant we're playing 3 centremidfielders suggesting a 4-3-3. I doubt this will be the case, id suspect a 4-2-2 with Turnbull and James in centre and Shaw not included. Could be wrong. Sorry that's not what I meant. I meant that Shaw would be first sub/first rotation for Turnbull and James. So rather than having Joyce come on for the last 10-15 minutes as he did for, what, a dozen games last season? we'd instead have Shaw coming on. In that case we'd probably shifting from a 442 to a 451 for the last few minutes, which is fair enough. Then obviously there are injuries, wanting to rotate the team etc. I'm sure that Shaw is going to start 10-15 games at least (including FA Trophy etc), add that onto the sub appearances, and you're getting up to thirty. Of course, Shaw is more likely to come off the bench than Joyce in the first place as he's better, which is why I think he'll play around 30-35 games. Obviously I should have said I don't think it will be the full 90 every time! As for formation, it'll definitely be 442, but I imagine we'll see a 532/352 sort of formation to 'match up' teams who do the same (like Tranmere at home last season). Either way, can Dawson play centre back?

I never felt confident last season of us being able to hold a lead, but with the new additions in central midfield, i can't see us being overrun. Dawson can play CB if required, but he's inexperienced in the position and it isn't his preferred choice, which i think basically means he can't play it well enough to be considered a choice for the position if anyone gets injured. I think we need another defender.
