sounds as if he wants to stay and we want him to stay trouble is we are waiting on possible james alabi money to finance the deal if it goes to a tribunal could be months before we get any cash{as happened with kingsley james) you cant expect lucas to stay around without a contract(and hence an income)until the tribunal sits he has to earn a wage of course maybe a company(or individual) could finance his deal until we get the J.A. money then it could be repaid to the sponser? just a thought a sort of an interest free loan as an alternative we could arrange a crowdfunder type arrangement(if something similar is not already in place) COYB

I see what you mean but I wouldn't fancy a Crowdfunder to sign a player given our recent history of such an initiative. Hopefully this new stadium sponsorship deal will cover it.

I've said it before on old DC and I'll say it again on here.
I would only contribute to a crowdfunder campaign again if it was for something with more of a long term aim. Like raising money to offer an additional one or two YTS players their first professional contracts.
That way we're contributing to something more than just throwing Macca an extra couple of quid to blow on a loan signing or two. We're actually investing in our own player development instead.

I personally rate Dawson, but my priority would be getting a winger in instead of another central midfielder.
Mahon is fairly injury prone and I wouldn't have even offered Chapell a contract, let alone have him starting every week.

Not convinced by Davies but happy to see Dawson stay. Showed enough in limited time and difficult circumstances last season to earn a deal.

I hope we haven't blown Horwoods wages to make these deals happen.

GET IN! Great news for both players. Agreed, Davies probably can't believe his good luck. How a couple of pre-season run outs justifies an extension is completely beyond me. Not good enough, quick enough or mobile enough to cut it at conference level and yes I do hope the above comments come back to bite me on the arse! Wade Joyce is one "Jack of all trades" players, all be it very limited. Do we really need another taking a wage off the club for 12 months who isn't up to the level?

I enjoy watching Dawson play and he offers us something different to James and Turnbull. Has plenty of potential and will develop under Shaw and playing alongside James and Turnbull.
Don't see why McCarthy has chosen to extend Davies contract, don't rate him. Incredibly slow for a attacking midfielder, does seem to have some technical ability though. Think a 6 month contract was about right in my opinion.

It concerns me a lot that we are going to end up relying on players like Davies, Joyce and Chappel at some point this season. These players are nowhere near Conference level. One thing I've learnt over the years is never judge a player based on pre-season friendlies. It's why I don't bother attending them.

I just don't see one in Davies, regardless of where his best position is at this level.

I think Joyce is a decent squad player to have in this division, very solid. Not a starter but as mentioned above a 'jack of all trades' type who can provide cover in more than just one position, which we need with the small squad. Again, Chapell is a great option to have coming off the bench. He frightens defences in this division when he's at full flight. As we know with players like that, Mahon too, the end product isn't always there but they are more likely to create chances. Honestly, I don't get the stick he gets from a lot of our fans. Davies, jury is still out, hopefully we get a better player this season with a full pre season behind him

I hope we haven't blown Horwoods wages to make these deals happen. Think it's fair to say that's probably what has occurred. Happy with Dawson, not so much Davies - would've preferred a replacement for Horwood's experienced head.

Happy with both these. Dawson definitely has something, although jury still out on Davies. Would much rather go down this route than bringing in some old lag on the way down. Rarely works out. We should be looking to develop players like this pair and accept that not all will work out. No doubt that Dawson can pick a pass - if we can get the ball down to him he could be invaluable for Hannah.
