Just been reading about Tranmere Rovers 3 day "WirralFest". It is rumoured to have lost around £200k and has resulted in the Chief Exec losing his job. This is the chance you take as a club if you self promote an event rather than renting out an arena to an experienced promoter who then takes the risk. OK you might miss out on a bigger financial return, but if things go wrong!! Rovers have apparently said the loss will not impact on the playing budget.

For the time being these losses are probably covered with the Football League parachute payments and their biggest game of the season against Liverpool, eventually these losses do catch up with them as Just look at Wrexham. 3 time play offs wasn't it? now they've faded to a standard non league team as their budget over the years is crippling.

Didnt they miss out on the extended payments I thought they came in the season after they were relegated if so then no parachute payment this year

It paid off for Cheltenham but 99% of the time Clubs fail and end up broke.

How on earth have they lost money on that? Little Mix are probably the biggest girl band on the planet, Madness have a cult following, and The Libertines was well attended too. Tickets weren't cheap. I expected them to have made good money on that.

As Big Si says, how on earth have they managed even a loss on that, nevermind a 200k one!!!

How much did they pay Jeremy Corbyn for his appearance?

Must admit to being surprised by this.
I thought we were losing out a lot to Tranmere and Wrexham in the fund raising stakes by them hosting concerts.

Wrexham had 30% of UB40 which looked like about 2000 attended.
But to be fair the Olly Murs gig looked very busy.

As others have said it's all about the promotion side of it.
Last summer they were rumoured to have made about 750k on the gigs they hosted at the time.
So to go from that sort of profit margin to losing 200k is shocking really. All because their CEO thought he could bring in more money by organising it all themselves.
They will be ok financially for now. They sold their old training facilities in Ingleborough for a few mill to a housing developer and have a deal with the council at their new training base.
Obviously the income from the Liverpool game is expected to absorb most, if not all of the loss they made on Wirralfest this year.
Considering how badly they were being run under Peter Johnson in the end with budgets cut year on year, Palios - to his credit - seems to have done a decent job so far off the field.
