Bit of a shame that. I think he's a decent player and brought some experience to the team.

Makes the squad even smaller now, but was likely on a decent wage given his experience and community work so means we will probably sign Dawson and have enough left over to get some cover for GK and defence. He was a decent player who wore his heart on his sleeve, so all the best to him.

will we get money for this ? Only in the sense that we will no longer have to pay his wages.
Echo the above comments - its a shame to see him leave as he brought experience to the squad and is fairly reliable at left back and left midfield. He will need to be replaced.
On a side note, he looked utterly, utterly miserable on the official squad photo for this season so probably knew he wouldn't be around for long.

I thought he was shite to be honest, but there you go.
No pace, got ripped apart at left back on more than one occasion. Only thing of note I think he did was win that "pen" at home to Tranmere.

Excellent news, he wasn't a left back and although experienced didn't really excite as a winger. It was a strange decision to sign him in the first place tbh and we have his wages to now put into Dawson, with Keeper and Centre back needed from Alabi if possible.
Wingers we can find on free premiership loans imo. Centre backs less so.
Means wing-wise we have Davies, Mahon, Chappell and Waters. Let's not pretend any of us were ever comfortable with Horwood left back, it was terrifying.

Likewise, didn't rate him at all. Nice left foot but well past his best and desperately slow. He was a total liability at left back. Believe he did some good work behind the scenes. Dawson a much better bet and hope this will free up the cash.

He had a nice left foot and was a cool, experienced head who could fill a couple of positions but I do think his legs have gone at this level. He didn't have the fitness to play for 90 mins. Hopefully this frees up some cash to recruit defensive cover, and if any left over sign Dawson up. I wish him all the best, he'll perhaps be more missed with his contributions to the Community side of things.

A shame really. Thought he brought his experience here and had a decent left foot. As the above poster has said, if he hadn't have scored his worldie of a goal st Southport, some will argue we would've been relegated. On a side note, at least it will free up the cash for a couple more players, especially Lucas Dawson who is desperate to sign. All the best Evan whoever you sign for! 🔵⚪️

Will be disappointed if we've missed out on Vassell now, ideal full-back / centre back cover with a bit of pace.

Has left the club by mutual consent to sign longer deal elsewhere If its mutual consent for him to leave, then can it be classed as a deal between us and the other club.
Just asking ........

I was actually surprised that Horwood accepted a six month deal in the first place. For a senior player it's a pretty poor offer really.
I thought he was a decent left mid but poor at left back.

I think this is a bigger loss than meets the eye. He can cover multiple positions and did lots of community work. We've already lost two players that did arguably the most community work and now the third.
It's a shame. Yes it frees up budget for Dawson but he isn't a player that will excel out wide or at full back covering. I think he was already in JMs plans regardless too. Leaves us with a tough task to find a defender.

Not a great loss imo and frees up abit more money for a replacement.

We've used the freed up money to tie Dawson down, which I am pleased about, and to extend Davies' deal, which I am indifferent about. Doubtful we can replace Horwood's experience.

ALL 3 ex-Wrexham players were problematic if rumours are to be believed and therefore it's best if they're off the payroll.

I see Davies as a straight replacement for Horwood, neither of whom are defenders. I think Dawson has a lot of potential at this level so happy. Will always appreciate Horwood's goal at Southport. Backup goalie and defender required from the pre-season trialists. Have we seen anyone worth signing on yet?

Jones looks like he could have a future but nowhere near Conference level yet. Would be worried if we're relying on him as our 3rd choice CB this season.

Jones still 17 (or only just gone 18) so needs time - you are bang on though, his potential is huge. I think Lowe-Turner may be the cover at CH, with left back being covered from midfield.
I liked the look of the keeper trialist 2nd half at Flint. Did the basics well, very vocal and made a great save towards the end.

well well well. McCarthy has a big task on his hands finding a defender of decent calibre, preferably with pace.
Im not having Joyce/Turnbull as Right back or Dawson centre back, LRT centre back with someone random left back. we need a defence not some omnishambles.
