Having read through some of the recent posts I can't believe some comments suggesting Chapple isn't Conference standard- before the lad got injured last season he was looking excellent he has skill and can play as an out and out winger and if we get Mahon on the other wing with White and Hannah feeding off them it should be interesting - I'm predicting Chapple to really shine this season

He doesn't score enough goals for a winger, and doesn't really do all that much in terms of assists either. He works hard every game, but so would I if I played for Chester, I think he's okay on a budget like ours, but far from a player that is going to take us into the playoffs. I'm hoping he's on the bench personally.

He goes missing in games, hiding out on the wing. I've never seen him make a tackle and without time and space, he just gives the ball away. I am truly amazed that people have such short memories. His one asset is his pace and that's why he gets selected.

Good option to come off the bench and run at tiring opposition defences but that's about it.

Shows flashes, but on the whole he's a bit lucky to still be here I think. It's make or break for him this season really, and I would say the same is probably true for Mahon who needs to rediscover his fitness and consistency of two years ago.

Mahon is on a two-year deal though, so if he can't we are stuck with him. We have certainly gambled with these multi-year deals.

My first siting of Chappell was in the pre-season friendly at Stalybridge when he first came here and he played well and scored a good goal. Probably as good as it got really. As stated he's lucky to still be here and must improve this season. Still only 23 or 24, but needs to push on.

If Mahon struggles for fitness then with the lack of options out wide he will become an integral member of the squad and must step up and deliver more in the final third. Not enough goals or assists for a winger must be his focus.

Good as an impact sub but only get about 15 minutes of a good performance when he plays a full match. I remember Macclesfield away last season and he bottled out of about 5 challenges. I get that players don't want to get injured but he wraps himself in bubble wrap most games

Chappel gets a lot of stick while Mahon, who is equally inconsistent and injury-prone, seems to get an easy ride. They should be fighting for one place in the team, so hopefully see them step up this season. No doubt both have ability.

Mahon doesn't get stick like Chapple because he pulls his nuts off for the team, gets stuck in and gives his all. Chapple shirks tackles and is lazy despite having ability . Fans will always forgive triers but not players like Chappel who are quickly found out.

Chappell is indeed lucky to be here. This will be his 3rd season and its frightening to think you could probably count the amount of really decent games he's had on one hand. Its frustrating as I do actually think he has some ability but as others have mentioned he's prone to shirking a challenge and players like that get found out in this league. In his defence I actually prefer him playing just off the front man or up top with someone, as when played there he seems difficult to pick up and he certainly seems to a player who needs to be in and around the area to be effective. Playing him on the wing, which sadly is where I think JM will play him, means that he's got to do the hard yards helping out the full back too and when he loses possession it can costly in that area of the pitch. I remember him running the show away at Alty a couple of years ago and he linked up with his mate Hannah brilliantly, he was borderline unplayable that night. I remember him and Higgins tormenting Halifax early that season too, I remember thinking this could be one of the best partnerships in the league, how wrong I was!

There's undoubted ability there. I've watched him in some games and thought what a player he could be. But then there's other game where he might as well of stayed at home. And whilst not expecting all players to tackle like Roy Keane there has to be some element of bottle in the tackle and he just completely backs out, even when facing a similar sized opponent.

In a nutshell. Chappell is quick and will score more goals than Mahon but when the tackles go in, he doesn't want to know.
