As a Chester fan, if we were in that league I would much rather have that money spread across the squad.
Have they spent money on other positions or just the one big signing?

We are very fortunate to be in this league at times, and we must stay in or above it as the NLN is getting harder each season.

Couldn't believe it when I read that earlier, I thought Kiddy were struggling financially or have they also now got investors?
Also just been reading that Billericay have signed Jermaine Pennant to add to the likes of Jamie O'Hara and Paul Konchesky already in their squad. Their millionaire owner/manager is pumping money in left right and centre to get them up the leagues asap.
There are so many financially backed teams in Non League now it's scary!

We won the league with a squad that bonded, and what a squad it was. Had height, ability and depth. That is what we need to progress, not 75k players and a load of ex-professionals.

Bilericay Town are one of the more laughable stories in football at the moment. Their owner is very local On Twitter with his plans and response to criticism. Personally have no time for them, it's not a jealousy thing which he likes to believe, it's more that I'm shocked by his naivety. He thinks he can turn them into a FL club in 5 years, but don't think he appreciates how hard the conf sub division/national are to get out of with some of the teams in them. I think they'll walk their league this year and so they should, but soon as that owner gets bored its game over for that unsustainable mess.

As Eastleigh have discovered, having the biggest budget doesn't guarantee success. Too many players turn up for cash, rather than football and it becomes messy. Kiddy should have learned from the Steve Burr days that throwing money at it leads to financial issues in the years ahead. Until the National League and the FA put measures in place to stop owners ploughing unlimited cash into clubs, the situation will only worsen. It's the knock-on effect of foreign owners in the higher divisions - local businessman now find it cheaper and easier to invest in small clubs, in the hope of building them up. Jealousy will always be the excuse thrown around but the fact of the matter is that the approach in unfair and 9 times out of 10 leads to the death or destruction of a football club once the owner gets bored.

It's a bit of a myth that sugar daddy owners quickly lose interest - or maybe wishful thinking on behalf of clubs with no sugar daddy. Look at clubs like Fleetwood and FGR. No fan of the latter but to be fair to Vince he has hung around despite seasons of failing to get into the football league. I saw they had 3000 for their first game - will be interesting to see how Nailsworth embraces league football.

Unless they have a decent cup run or the owner wants to lose more money by putting more into the Club then fair enough, they've operated at a 2.5 million lost in one year yet we panic over £20,000

Fleetwood maintained a trajectory that didn't allow the owner to get bored and Forest Green are a marketing tool for Vince's green technology. Too many others (Rushden etc) are one man's ego. Interesting to see that Barrow and Eastleigh seem to have cut back on splashing the cash this season.

That was my point - they are fine as long as Vince is there. Arguably the publicity he is getting gives some value for money. Some awful sycophantic pieces on FGR, including a shocker by Gary Richardson on the BBC. Even our pal Colin Murray was defending FGR saying they have passionate fans. Yes, about 800. RUshden and Blackburn are two good examples of what can happen long term but both had goood runs and GRiggs left R&D in a healthy position when he pulled out - fans ultimately messed it up

The 3-4000 gates during the bubble are great, but when the fun is over and the team is getting turned over the crowds drop. It may take 2 years, it may take 20, but Vince will get bored and when he does, pooooof. A village team will not be able to sustain it long term without proper income streams or a sugar daddy. Fleetwood, Accrington, Yeovil, Crawley, Burton all examples of town teams who may be able to grow fan bases in the town to give them long term sustain League football, but to me this is dependent on them getting FL funding. As we've all found out, as soon as you drop to the NL and lose the payments it becomes a very, very difficult League to get out of.

I think Crawley, just up the road from me, are going to struggle this season. Their finances have always been a bit murky but appear to be on a downwards spiral now following the death of a benefactor. The ultimate case was Blackburn Rovers but I bet if you ask their fans if they'd rather not have had the Shearer and Champions League years they would all give the same answer. Also Bournemouth on crowds of 11,000 in the Prem - surely not sustainable but fun while it lasts. Would I take a few years of glory...probably not now having gone through the Vaughan years but sure some of our fans would. It's going to get harder and harder for us to survive in this league...looking at National League North terrifies me. It's so much stronger than the southern equivalent and plenty of aspiring owners who seem willing to get involved. Not sure Stockport will ever get back to our level now.
