The great 85-86 season started with 2 drab draws (against Halifax and Hartlepool) and a shocker at Peterborough. Loads of unrest in the Sealand Road end, nobody happy with the manager (he'd taken over from Mickey Speight who kept us up the season before), poor attendances, and look how that all turned out! Just saying...

Yes but Mr McNally had a reasonably good record at his former club He had not FAILED TO WIN A SINGLE HOME MATCH FOR SEVEN MONTHS before joining us He also brought a number of his better players with him, and had arguably Chester Cities best ever centre forward in Stuart Rimmer already at the club

My old man was talking about McNally the other day and was saying the football wasn't always pretty but we got players in to suit that style and got results. Whereas Macca is seemingly trying to win ugly with a team of players unsuited to doing so. You can play ugly but you must get results otherwise you will end up with supporters on your back which is what is happening. Granted, you do have to grind out ugly wins at this level, but on our pitch we should be able to play a little bit more football surely.
