Society has moved on significantly since one of the Greatest Britains of all time (in my view) Alan Turing was unfairly and disgracefully vilified for being homosexual. There is much more acceptance in society nowadays of homosexuality and the stigma of years gone by is evaporating day by day. Therefore do these Pride events need to continue as they now seem very passé? It could be seen as a celebration of that change more than a protest. Also, while things are changing here, there are people tortured and killed all over the world for being homosexual. In fact, you don't even have to leave the UK to see how far behind the times they are in Northern Ireland, and with the DUP dinosaurs now taking a more prominent role in UK politics, gay freedom of expression remains an issue.
