I will be making the long journey myself, and can’t wait for it. Come On You Blues! Score: Eastleigh 0-1 Chester FC (Akintunde) Attendance: 2,098 (131 Chester) COYB! How far did you get before hearing the game is off?

Disgusting, no excuses. We should be awarded the points. We won't though. We will go back there when they've found form and they'll get a poxy small fine.

I would agree that clubs at this level are immensely irritating. It's like they're all just owned by rich pillocks with more money than sense.
We have a fraction of their resources and we manage to maintain an excellent playing surface. Our weather's a damn sight worse than they get down there as well.

So the pitch isn't waterlogged! I bet it was a Local ref who called it off not the match officials. Like I said this all points towards Eastleigh not trying to get this game on.

Not even an apology to the fans who have spent a lot of money on travel. Amateur statement.

It could also be seen as Eastleigh wanting the game postponed due to injured players and being over zealous with the hose pipes !!!!!!!!!!!!

"Player safety". I've played on some attrocious pitches over the years - the players simply adapt to dodgy parts of the pitch - almost part of the tactics. Football is an entertainment industry. Fans are the most important thing in football, but time and time again we get shafted.

What the hell is wrong with these clubs that they can't even offer up an apology? Shocking lack of professionalism. Joke club.

Just checked with friend of mine who lives at Winchester and they've not had any meaningful rain all week down there
A few showers, Wednesday was a tad damp but not much since Wednesday
It's difficult not to wonder if the pitch has somehow been accidentally over-watered

When you think back to the normal mud lake state of many pitches at even the big clubs up to the 80s, that little patch of whatevers in Dave Powell's picture looks like nothing. Good comments from Mark Maguire - audioboom.com/posts/6349858-ceo-mark-maguire-speaks-following-eastleigh-postponement - I would hope for a significant fione, but of course that won't happen and instead clubs like that will continue to take the wee.

Eastleigh have stated that the pitch in that corner has a drainage issue.
It's a facilities issue, not a weather issue. Repeat of Solihull

It seems their fans are as angry as us at how their club is being managed, according to this thread those particular pitch issues were known about a month ago - Spitfires forum Not really a great advert for private ownership is it, given we had a fair few fools who had lost their heads on here a little while ago saying that fan ownership isn't working!

Eastleigh have stated that the pitch in that corner has a drainage issue. It's a facilities issue, not a weather issue. Repeat of Solihull Eastleigh have had issues with their pitch and drainage in one corner in particular since the summer - August 14th National League club Eastleigh insist ongoing problems with their pitch will be addressed before the visit of Tranmere Rovers visit on Saturday. Kick-off was delayed for the game against Dagenham & Redbridge after drainage issues in one corner. "There's an area of concern, but we won't have to dig the pitch up completely," chief executive Mark Jewell told BBC Radio Solent. The sides drew 2-2 after referee David Rock passed the pitch fit. The club experienced problems with the pitch in pre-season when games against AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth were cancelled. Hot weather in early July followed by a prolonged spell of rain in August have affected the surface. "It's been the extremes of weather really that's hampered us," Jewell admitted. "We've got a very high water table in this area. After a fair bit of rain in the past week, there's one spot of the newly-laid surface that isn't draining as well as everywhere else. "The ground staff have been working on spiking it and trying to get as much air into the roots as possible to encourage growth. "We're in a clay-based area where unfortunately there's a layer of water sitting above the clay, but below the turf in one area."

No debt, we are our own masters and hopefully gates will increase with better results What would you suggest as a viable and realistic alternative?

It's worked pretty well but granted we have hit some tough times Privately owned clubs hit tough times too and occupy almost all the relegation places in every league from the prem to the NW counties

No debt, we are our own masters and hopefully gates will increase with better results What would you suggest as a viable and realistic alternative? I don't have the answers, but I think we should be open to considering outside investment. I suggested on another thread some kind of minority investment similar to German football. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea of the fan ownership model, I would love it to be successful. However the reality is we are in a worse position than 3 years ago. I'm now of the opinion that the current model will not get us back into the league. I think treating the current model as some holy doctrine that cannot be challenged is dangerous. I don't think my concerns make me a "fool" as the first comment stated

Can't help but think that myself. Even in the 90s you'd often see pitches with barely a blade of grass on them. It wasn't ideal, but I don't remember significantly more injuries, or games being particularly bad as a result. I think we've become a bit sanitised by the glamour of the Premier League to the point where we think even at our level, surfaces need to be flawless. Just get the bloody game played, I think!
Not excusing Eastleigh though. I'm not buying the conspiracy theories, but I think they're unprofessional. They'd rather spend money on a seventh choice striker than making sure they have an adequate surface to play on, and there's too many clubs like that in this division.
Cements my view that this is the least enjoyable league to play in in England. Any higher and it's a lot more professional, atmospheric and high quality, any lower and it's lot more relaxed and friendly. Not saying I want us to get relegated or anything but God, it's a tedious league!

If the match is approved on Friday and a pitch inspection not needed this morning and the weather has been fine, then either we have a stupid decision by match officials or Eastleigh are culpable. Either way we deserve an apology.
Also if this is the case in September they have no chance of getting through the winter on this pitch.
Ridiculous situation. 😡

Looking at this picture this area of the pitch does look very iffy but its not down to rain its down to poor investment in the pitch which certainly does not look National League standard and any postponements like today should mean the away team is awarded the points but of course that will not happen. We should be complaining to the league big style arguing that the pitch must have been in this condition after the last game on it and no attempt has been made to get it ready for today as it clearly looks like a ploughed field
