Has Stopforth had his operation yet? The sooner he has it, the sooner he’ll be back. Was told by Scott Burton Saturday that Stopforth will probably be out for rest of season unfortunately

From what I’ve read on here, I understand we have to wait for NHS availability for any operations, and we all know the stress they’re under. So basically, the Tories are f**king up our team. So the 13 years of the last labour government was a great era for the NHS was it? As I recall it they only chased mythical weapons of mass destruction, creating needless military casualties for the NHS to deal with. Unless, of course, you mean that the entire board at Chester have been Tories for the past four years. It was a bit of a throwaway comment. The main point I was making is that we can only do it when there is NHS availability. If we’re being political, yes Labour didn’t help either, but you only have to look at stats from the last few years to see how much the Tories have decimated it. Deliberately as well, in my opinion.

Can we keep the Tory bashing to the off topic forum please? It’s not related to football.

Won’t say anymore. Like I said, the point was more about NHS.

Don’t understand why Chester fans get worked up over anti-Tory stuff. Our very club is a socialist cooperative enterprise.

His more interesting views are that those who are injured (and are unable to work) are leeching off the club should be cast aside. Doesn't really get more right-wing than that.

Don’t understand why Chester fans get worked up over anti-Tory stuff. Our very club is a socialist cooperative enterprise. Even if it was, clearly many people who believe in things like private property support the club some of whom will be Tory voters & even members & they shouldn’t be subject to hostility from those who disagree with them. The best way to avoid that is to keep emotive subjects like politics to the off topic forum. Just for clarity though, Chester FC is a profit driven business operating a capitalist model in a capitalist market. If it wasn’t a football club it’s customers would have gone elsewhere & it’d be out of business. The fact that it’s fan owned has nothing whatsoever to do with socialism as you well know.

Someone on here has said that Stopforth is out for the season. Stopforth himself has said that he hopes to be back soon. Anyone know a more accurate assessment.

That's a shame because if he's missing this season that's probably the last we'll see of him. He's 32 and lives in Burnley and might be too much of a risk to give another contract to. What a mess.

I believe it will purely be based on what league we are in. If we are to have another campaign in Conf North I wouldn't hesitate in giving him another season. For me he is was our first choice centre midfielder before he got injured.

Latest on Stopforth after someone asked Dave Powell on the Q & A on twitter
Gary Stopforth has been liasing with the PFA over this as there is a significant cost involved - more than £5,000. The PFA can support but there would be nothing done on the NHS that would be in a timely fashion for Stopforth to return this season. However, Chester are exploring other options to aid Stopforth that would allow him to feature again this season. The hope remains that something can be done soon to see him back for the run in.

Hope this ^ is correct - the sooner the better...the rot started creeping in when he and Matty Hughes were side-lined - they had the best attitudes of any players we have had for the last 5 years.

If it’s cartilage he will be out 6/7 weeks after op ( I’ve had that op myself 3 times !!) which is frustrating as if he had the op a week or 2 after getting the injury he would more or less be back now !

I doubt he’s lying. Was there any need for that? I didn’t suggest he was lying. Operations don’t always go to plan or happen when booked. The point of what I said was manifestly obvious - the urgency with which we need him back on the pitch.

Doubt he's gonna play again this season, Burton told me at Spennymoor away that Gary's gotta go for surgery and probably won't feature this season

I'm sure Jonno had previously stated in the press that we train on five-a-side pitches ("for an hour"), so I can only assume its Goals over the road from the ground where obviously you pay for the hour slot. It would explain the masses of injuries too - Goals is notorious for your average Joe Bloggs going over on his ankle regularly, the pitches aren't the best.

I think we'll see him next season - assuming Bern and Jonno are still here of course.

I think Mike has stated in another thread that the club train on the Deva twice a week, except game weeks where the session proceeding a game is on a 3g. When they are on the Deva there is no excuse for not training the full 2 hrs. The club used to use the Uni 3g when needed but it would appear that relationship has soured? I know that the Academy have a good relationship with both the Rugby Club and Christleton High school where the 3g pitches are good. The management have chosen to use somewhere nearer to (or in) Manchester though I believe in the past. If they only train for 1 hour that is a facility issue, and they chose the facility. It really isn't an excuse, and shouldn't be turned on the club. Where did they train when they were at Ramsbottom? Unfortunately it appears we have several players made of porcelain, others who are retirement ready and some who just can't be arsed. As it was with Bignot and McCarthy, managers get paid to manage. It is down to Anthony and Bernard to revive the fortunes of their squad, as currently they seem to be going through the motions. That is the one thing we were promised that their teams would never do. Time to earn their money and keep those reputations intact. Whilst injuries are a problem, it is very noticeable that the issues we have had are down to losing Stopforth, yet aside from someone who has come in to play for free once, they have done nothing to address that? Signing more wingers and strikers will not cover up the fact we are very static in the middle. Would I sack them? No. Am I questioning their ability? Not yet. I am wondering how they are going to get us out of this situation though, as we are tumbling from the play offs, and are regularly getting battered away from home.

FACTS- They train at the ground on a Tuesday night for as long as they want/need! They train on a Thursday (pre-match) for 1 hour (club pays it) on a 5 aside pitch! FACTS!
