I get the point and agree with the embarrassing thing. The wider picture to some is more embarrassing that we are playing at this level. We without doubt have thoss supporters who have watched us more than hold our own in league one and those who have only known us as a non league outfit. The longer term is a big worry as many won’t put up with this level of football for long. We have lost many supporters because we are at this level. I’m not saying personally that promotion is a must this season as it looks like that can only occur via a play off campaign which will be difficult. As has been mentioned elsewhere I wonder if some bad weather wouldn’t be a bad thing resulting in the Spennymoor game being called off. We have a difficult February coming up and we certainly need positive results from those games to stay in the mix. We have no doubt been unfortunate with injuries this season. Let’s hope for a good run over this last third of the campaign.

He is still a chester legend as far as i can remember. Just because he took a job at our rivals this should not change? Yep, to me and most Chester fans I know And me.

I think people are underestimating Curzon a bit as well. We should be beating them, but they're a decent little side who are perfectly set up to play away from home. It’s a bit embarrassing to be honest, reading some of the ‘the likes of Curzon Ashton’ comments. They’re a solid midtable team, and have won four in a row. Yes, if you want to get promoted it’s the sort of home game you hope to win, but they’re not a pub team just because they’ve got a bit of a weird name. God knows we’ve been in these league for long enough and you’d think some of our fans would have a bit more humility! Humility is not a trait present in a lot of our fans.

Eight and a half years into the revival from the ashes of the past, and this equates to six years progress and two and a half years deterioration. Most of the dismal last two and a half years of decline are self inflicted, and sadly I can only blame the board of the time for such deterioration. I exclude members from the last six months as anyone would be pushed as a result of the preceding two abysmal years. In summary, a great September and October, something hit the fan in mid November, but December saw a good return to some quality results, and then Christmas happened! Save a good performance at FC United, it is clear that the team is well off the boil, with all departments lacking. It’s folly to suggest that it’s only a striker short of a picnic. On present form it’s a poor team in a poor league, and changing the nickname and badge is not the answer. Why would anyone with no current affiliation to the club want to watch such dire performances? We’re certainly nothing magical like a unicorn, and not even approaching a Pegasus with no wings. If the deadly duo like a challenge they certainly have one now!

When we reformed and raced through the lower leagues brushing aside teams like this. We are now having to rely on lady luck to get us promotion should we make the play offs.Stating the obvious i know but the current situation is depressing. For fans like myself who live in the south the notion of supporting a team tgat you can't watch without travelling 200 miles because of the northern aspect of the league is equally depressing.

It’s not embarrassing to be playing at this level, what would be embarrassing would be to give up or throw our toys out the pram because we don’t like it.

Agree with the last post. In the aftermath of the Blyth game I called an aspect of the club out on its lack of respect and drastic reactions either way to results. As you would imagine it wasn’t universally welcomed. Starting at the beginning, some facts : Less than 12 months ago there wasn’t going to be a club at all In the spring/early summmer a key concern was whether we could put together a management and playing staff that would keep us in the league. At the start of the season, many others and I stated that to win more games than we lose, maybe tilt at the play offs would be a good season. We are on that course - despite crippling injuries. Saturday was crap. Compounded probably to some by the smash and grab nature and the fact that we beat CA so convincingly earlier in the season. We had 3 key strikers out injured and a 17 year old up too in his own. There was no incompetence, no one was a clown, the effort and intent was there but the quality and guile was not. I m as disappointed as anyone but it’s not the end of the world, or the end of the club. What is the Armageddon in this? We fade from the play offs ? That wound be tough to take but when all is said and done, even if we did, I would feel optimistic about next season. We have no divine right guys, there are clubs at this “embarrassing” level with bigger crowds and bigger budgets. Some of them are wealthier right now but more culpable to going pop. Some of them are very well run. Fair play to CA, rode their luck and hit us. Good for them. Fact is if our 3 half chances/chances went in and we won 3-0 everyone would be purring about promotion and wondering what the sell on for the young lad is going to be. Let’s be calm, enjoy the week and have a bash at Spennymoor

It's been nice to feel like genuine contenders, which was a bonus given the problems earlier in the year and new managers having to build a new squad from scratch. A realistic tilt at the play offs is something I'd have taken at the start of the season. Obviously we did better than we thought and those expectations are different, but the injury crisis has put a halt to that and we have to re-adjust again. We've got to try and stick around the top 8 until we have more bodies back and then go again. Still confident we'll get the play offs, but if we don't then I think the foundations laid this season will stand us in good stead going forwards to next season so it's certainly no disaster.

I think that's got to be correct - we are still in a play off place, there aren't that many points between us and 2nd place and the scores for the teams around us are not v predictable (alty were flying and are now fading, chorley had a rough spell and are now back 1st, etc etc). So there's plenty of scope for us going higher and the season is certainly not over yet. Asked if we'd accept a play off place in January, I bet 100% of us would have said yes. It's too easy to be pessimistic. I know you could say that the scores around us have gone our way in the last 2-3 weeks and that if only we'd won the last two we'd be higher, but the gaffers are doing a cracking job, their ambition for the team is easily as high as the fans' and we've got a horrendous injury list. I can see us getting going again in Feb (when the injuries will start trickling back) and having a great run into the last part of the season. Next week won't be easy and if we can take a point away that would be great but if we lose, it's not the end of the world - most teams will lose to Spennymoor this season.

Fans owned model. It'll only work if you set your ambitions low. No issue with the managers and the players, just the business model.
