Brian Croft was a box of tricks. Short in stature with almost white blonde hair. He always seemed to score in the FA Cup. In the run we had in '86-'87 he scored the winner from a very tight angle in the second replay against Rotherham United (before the days replays got settled on pens) which set us up for that nice little cup run where we beat Wrexham in the snow and finally went out to Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round replay. In the 1990-1991 season he also scored two in two minutes to bring us level at home to Bournemouth when we were exiled in Macclesfield. One sailed in with the wind from almost the halfway line. Sadly Bournemouth then scored again beating us 3-2. I believe it remains the lowest ever FA Cup 3rd round attendance for any club. Just checked, only 1,833 in attendance. The pub at the corner of the ground was like the wild west before the game. The Bramble I remember it kicking off big time in the Bramble before a game against Bolton, glasses and furniture flying. The Landlady kicked everybody out. Became membership only on match days after that. Also a young Jamie Redknap was Bournemouth's star player that day.

What about our man Alan Tarbuck? I could have cried when he broke his leg. Debut in 1969 I think with 2 goals❤️

The Rotherham captain that night was John Dungworth.

A few for the older ones amongst us (from the late 60's).
Eric Brodie, Mike Sutton and the great Sir Barry Ash - Barry Ashworth.

I always liked John Thomas. A super speedy centre forward who scored some great goals. I was really surprised recently to find he wasn't with us for very long at all. Seem to remember he left us for Bradford City and played in the fateful game when their stand caught fire

Yes, that's right. I got it the wrong way round 👍 Huddersfield away was the day of Hillsborough rather than Bradford fire - pretty sure we were at home on the day of the Bradford fire…

Referring to Hillsborough. However, going back to the aforementioned David Felgate I recall he was magnificent in an FA Cup game at Valley Parade.

I stand corrected. Both incidents were quite a while ago, my memory is not what it was. Some things are still pretty clear from years ago though.

We had a run of really solid goalkeepers who were great servants of the club. Doubt any will be spoken of as highly as Grenville Millington who was in the sticks before my time, but Billy Stewart, John Danby and Wayne Brown were cracking keepers. Hopefully Stanway can stick around and join that highly thought of group. Did you leave out Dave Felgate on purpose? Great keeper and great rapport with the fans. I seem to remember him responding to fans throughout games and even occasionally miming taking off a giant top hat. It sounds bonkers now I'm typing it but I swear I wasnt dreaming. Wales number 1. Shit, how could I forget Felgate, absolute legend, I even had his replica GK top with almost every colour of the rainbow in it.

Marc Williams, Bradley Barnes, Micheal Twiss, Abdou El-Kholti, Scott McNiven, Sean Hessey.
There’s a few for you and that’s only a certain few years before and after reformation. Twiss was one of my favorite players and before he left us scored some pretty impressive goals to help get us promoted

I was in lake district on walking weekend and Chester v Woking was on TV in pub!! Twiss came on as sub and I said he's my favourite player who scores Brill goals. Not believing he would do in front of my 6 walking colleagues. Then he got the ball 40 yards out beat a couple of players and unleashed a screamer from 25 yards. They were amazed. One of my nicer memories in front of premiership supporters.

We were stood in an old tin shed along one side of the ground. Drew 0-0 away and beat them 1-0 in the replay I think. One of my favorite all time players played, Davy Thompson. 'We've got Davy, Davy Thompson on the wing on the wing'

To Thompson was to wander aimlessly up and down a narrow strip of turf.

Michael Kay. Just seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Not a bad centre half.

Eeeee nobody talks about Darren Donnelly any more. Agree - he should have threads galore on here and maybe a seat in the South Stand named after him

I've got one of those player worn white shirts that they sold off cheap at the end of the season. It was a loan player, can't remember who, I must dig it out.

Anybody mentioned Wakley Gage yet ? Yup I did, he lived in the next street to me in Garden Lane a couple of doors down from my friend. I remember there were rumours about his sexuality, back when it wasn't as socially acceptable as today to be gay. I have no idea whether he was or not, and it's not really important, but back then it was a talking point among a few fans. What's surprising is how even in this day and age, footballers still feel they have to remain in the closet, unlike people in other walks of life.

Ryan Sugden, I remember really rating him for some reason although I don’t think he scored many for us. I remember seeing him in Total Fitness & being a bit starstruck as a young lad.
