That was a pleasant surprise played with freedom and no fear.could have been four or five but the two will do .Rowe turner m o m for me but only just akintunde james and astles all in with a shout.only downside dawson needs to get to specsavers we play in blue .lost count of his stray passes .very happy with that we can get better and fitter

The only negative was Halls. His confidence looks shot and he is a bag of nerves. LRT was nice and composed on the other side but Halls just takes one touch and the next thought it's to immediately pump it long. He needs to be better.

Great to see smiles back on peoples faces after what was a very encouraging display. Having only had a couple of days to work on things, I didn't expect to see major differences from Bignot but he's definitely tweaked things. From the first time Lynch collected the ball it was obvious that we were looking to play out from the back when possible - it made total sense as why punt it to two small strikers? Playing this well will catch us out at times, and a couple of times we did give the ball away in dangerous areas but I'd much rather us attempt to play football on the deck like that. Also noticeable was the defence playing a higher line - its dangerous given our chronic lack of pace but having the defence and midfield playing closer together meant that we could win more balls in the middle of the park and allowed some neat short passes. The worry was not getting the second goal and getting caught out, but once it was 2-0 you felt that Maidenhead were gone and there was only going to be one winner. Great celebrations after both goals, loved seeing Shaw high fiving Rio - I'd have been pissing my pants with excitement if one of the players did that to me when I was his age! You could sense the collective relief amongst everyone and it was brilliant at the end seeing what it meant to everybody. I actually felt a bit emotional which sounds strange after a 2-0 win against Maidenhead but we all invest a lot emotionally and we've been badly let down in recent times and it was just such a great feeling to win a game at home again. Liked everything I saw from Bignot today. The tactics were spot on, fantastic energy on the touchline which is what we've lacked for years, and he was constantly encouraging and barking instructions. It's early days but it was a breath of fresh air in that dugout today. In terms of individual performances, the big man rightfully got MOTM but was pushed hard by a few others. I thought Kingsley put in a tremendous shift in a position not familiar to him - he kept the ball well, gave us energy and actually won a lot in the air. Akintunde was brilliant too, such an intelligent player. Honourable mention to Shaw who lasted surprisingly well given his lack of match fitness, and makes the decision to sideline him look even more silly. Don't want to get carried away, as Maidenhead weren't the best outfit we've seen here, but sod it lets just enjoy the winning feeling again! Excellent summary of what was a great performance against an albeit limited Maidenhead team. I opted for Akintunde as MoM but that's all about personal opinions For the first time in ages at home we looked like a proper team, MB was spot on for going public about player's roles and responsibilities and was true to his word, this was not a disjointed group of 11 individuals, I thought everyone played well You could see the complete change in attitude in the players, they actually seemed to be enjoying life again Noticed how MB embraced the players who were substituted notably Akintunde and how he rounded up all the players and staff to get on the pitch at the end. I feel that he's looking to develop a real "all for one" type of mentality Of course it's early days and I posted earlier about not going overboard but let's just rejoice in that elusive home win and the fact that everyone (I hope) left with a smile on their faces, it certainly makes the weekend more enjoyable than of late

If this is a sign of things to come, the timing couldn't be better. FA Cup start soon and a nice little run would put some much needed money into the club. How I wish we to get to FA Cup 3rd Round - wouldn't that be perfect.

LRT was nice and composed on the other side but Halls just takes one touch and the next thought it's to immediately pump it long. He needs to be better. Halls distribution has been like that all season in fairness. For me though he's a better defender than LRT, he gets tighter to his marker and tends to stop more attacks than LRT. Having said that LRT was excellent today and I've liked him since I saw him in preseason but he's very much a confidence player I think. Hopefully Bignot will see his major weakness and get him to close down quicker cos he could be a decent fullback.

I thought we played pretty well, can't fault any of the players. I think the comment above was spot on, it was like a routine home win. Didn't think much of maidenhead, how were they 5th Aki man of the match for me, never stopped running and gave them lots of problems. Does he need to be more selfish shoot himself? Agree on both counts. Akintunde man of the match, just need some goals from him. Maidenhead were poor, or at least made to look poor. This league is there for the taking this season with no outstanding team and it's a case of 'this is what you could have won' but for McCarthy.

Very good performance today, great to finally get that elusive home win!
We looked a confident side going at them in the first half playing it mainly on the deck and created some really good chances, we really should have been three or four up at the break. We put a lot of effort in to it and understandably got a bit tired in the second half, but despite that still looked the stronger side.
Akintunde was our best player on the day I thought, he’s good with the ball at his feet and he’s strong too, often see him putting his body in the way using his strength. He seems to often win physical challenges even when he doesn’t look favourite for them. Best I’ve seen of Rowe-Turner by some distance as well bombing up and down the left all afternoon causing havoc. Dawson looks much better playing deeper in front of the back four as well. He’s not the quickest and not particularly agile either, so sitting deeper allows him to get his foot on the ball, his vision is his biggest asset and his passing style is slick, just need to reduce the amount of stray passes. Good to see Shaw back, who installed some urgency in to our play, also very good.
Anyway, good day, nice to see everyone so happy after a game at the Deva again, let’s hope it continues.

When you consider Maidenhead were 5th in the league, it just shows that there isn't much quality in this division which makes it all the more infuriating that our previous manager set up solely to stop our opponents playing.
That was a phenomenal performance in the circumstances. We were good to watch, full of energy and for the first time in ages we actually controlled a game of football really well.
10/10 for Bignot today. Got his team right, breathed confidence into them and was a bouncing presence on the touchline. He's quite clearly a leader and our players looked like they thrived off his presence. His decision to call a huddle in front of the terrace at the end felt like a significant moment to me, a symbol that a new era had begun.
As for the players, 1-11 were superb. I always said that the slate was wiped clean as soon as JM left, because they've been been so restricted by the awful tactics this season that it's been impossible to look a threat. Halls and LRT looked so much more comfortable and threatening, Astles was superb as always and Hannah (in more of a link-up role?) and Akintunde were a menace throughout. What we've said all season is that we have some very capable players and so it proved today.
The crowd was poor, but it's going to be a slow process. We've been so starved of any entertainment at home and that's really hurt our gates. A few more performances like that and they'll undoubtedly climb.
It's early days, but if MB can provoke a performance like that after 1 training session, I think the future is bright.

Why are people predicting over 2,000? No chance imo, 2-2 draw with 1874 in attendance. Only 35 off

Responsibility on all the fans who attended to spread the word about how well we played and how entertaining the game was. Would be nice to get 1900 down for the Woking match and hopefully take 1000 plus to Prenton. Fingers crossed Mellon is still in charge when the Cestrians invade

That was a massive breath of fresh air. Wasn't expecting a 'turn around', so quick. We passed the ball well, from back to front, not the hopeless long ball tactics of the McCarthy era. We could easily have scored 3 or 4 goals, in the first half. Great individual performances from Astle's and Akintude. Great to see Shaw start and it shows what we have been missing. Also, I thought Dawson had a cracking game sitting, in front of the back 4, spraying passes around. They sometimes don't come off, but he was always willing to provide an outlet for the back four. I will stick my neck out and say that he will be the next player, to be sold for decent money. He has the potential to be a very influential player, for us. Marcus Bignot wouldn't have been my first choice, but massively impressed with that, after one coaching session, it was light years ahead of the dross, under McCarthy.. If we play like that there is no way we will be relegated.

Got a good feeling about this. Beatable opposition and the appointment of Bignot should give the players a spark. Chester 3-1 Maidenhead. Hannah x2 and Astles. Attendance 2,134 with 79 Maidenhead followers. COYB! Did well with the goalscorers here!!

Excellent performance today from everyone. It felt so refreshing and it was great to see the positivity return. Considering Bignot only arrived on Wednesday, he has done very well to set the team to play the ball on the deck. We played with so much freedom and it could’ve been 4-0. Apart from leaving Turnbull out Marcus made a good team selection, which included starting Shaw who had an excellent game. Couldn’t believe my eyes when he high-fived me. That moment will live with me forerver, but he should be playing most weeks from now on. Other positive performances include Rowe-Turner, Lynch, Akintunde, Hannah, Astles etc. Rowe-Turner was brilliant bombing up and down the pitch creating some good chances. In my opinion, he has impressed me all season, but put in his best performance today. Lynch made some important catches as well as playing the ball from the back. It may be risky at times, however playing the ball out to the full-backs is much more refreshing than hoofball, and can start out an attack. Akintunde’s runs were excellent, although I feel gutted that he didn’t score. Hannah scored a good penalty and Ryan Astles was solid all game; capped off by a super strike. Marcus is the man! He’s instilled team spirit, got our group together and most importantly, sealed our first home win since last year at the very first attempt. Lovely touch at the end when all the squad went into a huddle, which shows that we are all in it together. What also impressed me was that he was vocal all game, unlike McCarthy. Wasn’t too scared to shout out instructions along with his new assistant and was very passionate. However, it was a disappointing crowd today. Such a shame that only 1,839 people witnessed our elusive home win but I’m sure the attendances will rise on merit of today’s performance. The fans who did turn up, on the other hand, were awesome all game and it felt so good to see smiles on their faces at the end. This league is so open, but if we string a couple of wins together then we can aim high and forget our awful start. Up next is Eastleigh away this Saturday. I will be among the hardy souls taking the long trip down whilst feeling optimistic. I can’t wait for it, especially with a new era just starting. The future looks bright under Bignot. Come On You Blues!

Bignot strikes again la la la la!
Great performance from Chester, could've been six or seven nil. Said Akintunde would play League football. He needs to be put on a longer deal.
Where were the fireworks after the game though?

Well I really enjoyed that, playing and passing at a higher tempo, yes we did give the occasional ball away, but I can put up with that.My man of match was Rowe turner in what was a good team performance, with better finishing it could have been 5.Well done Bignot on a great start although against what I thought was a poor ( apart from number 8) side.

Gutted I couldn't make it today now.
Delighted we've finally ended this terrible home run and massive credit to Bignot for hitting the ground running, but doesn't it say a lot that we're seeing a home win against Maidenhead as a nice surprise?
When Neil Young first got us promoted into this division, we didn't see ourselves as being there to make up the numbers, which perhaps led to us being less patient than we should've been with the slow start. Somehow, since then, we've come to believe we're lucky to be playing in this division and have no right to do anything but avoid relegation.
There's no reason why we need to be small fry in this division in my opinion, we could just as easily be a sleeping giant. I'm hopeful the Burr and McCarthy reign might be looked back in as a bit of an anomaly, a "what was that all about?" period. I'm realistic and I know the task this year is to keep us up, but I'm looking at the last three champions of this division (Barnet, Cheltenham and Lincoln) and thinking they're not really dissimilar clubs to us. Why can't we dream a bit bigger?

Today , you could feel the air of expectation and perhaps a little tension in the ground building before kick off. But, the team and Bignot delivered. It was like watching a real Chester side play at home again. Plenty of pace, width and endeavour. LRT a revelation getting behind their full backs, Akintunde a real handful and James doing an immense amount of work on the right hand side. But it was much more than that. There was a sense of togetherness and new found confidence with these players who we know can perform , and at last real structure and organisation to the team. This seemed more than just new manager bounce , and whilst it will be tough in the weeks to come , today’s performance at the very least gives something to build on and some cautious optimism for the future - unimaginable under McCarthy. But above all, thank god we have won at home !!

All we need now is that prick Whopper to come in and tell us we're all doomed. Really pleased with that today - we had so much more width than usual helped by LRT getting forward. Kingsley had a great game out on right wing/mid. Thought Mahon and Dawson struggled but put a shift in still. Akintunde was the standout performer for me - he deserved a goal. Was a little frustrated with Hannah late on not busting his balls to get to the tackle but finished his penalty well. We need to improve still but this is a big step in the right direction.

Can only echo much of what's been said. We were hoping for a reaction to the new appointment and we got it. I think we created more today than in our previous home games this season combined! The way we were set up and our positive approach in quickly getting the ball forward whenever possible was so refreshing. I didn't realise how accustomed I'd be become to JM's brand of zero creativity football.
Although you can't realistically expect such dominant displays every week, today further highlighted how far away we've been under JM from where we should be. Not only that, but for an astonishing length of time!
Only a fool would be getting carried away after just one game. However for the first time in several months, today has given me some real hope about our ability to compete.

Very pleased for the result and attitude change in the Players for MBs first game. We were all desperate for that outcome which shows what is achievable.
Who knows where MB will take us, it is still too early to judge but its nice to enjoy a Sunday with a positive glow from a great result.

Top, top post. That's just saved me typing out pretty much the same thing. Great day all round. Yes Si pretty much gets that all correct. very important not to get carried away but that was definitely a step in the right direction. Nice to see a manager barking out instructions from the touchline for once and showing some leadership. I thought there were good performances all round but in particular thought Akintunde was superb, using his pace to really stretch the defence - looks like him and Hannah could develop a good pairing as well. Dawson also looks to have that tributes to be an excellent player. yes he did give the ball away a few times but has a good range of passing and workrate. Kingsley was great on the right, and LRT also had his best game. The whole team and stadium were up for it in a way we haven't seen for ages. At the end of the day though, it's just 1 win. but as Si said, we let's enjoy it and hope we can now move forward. Welcome to Chester Marcus - great start! And here's the pen for anyone who wants to see it, including Rio's high five with Shaw!
