John Richardson, sports broadcaster and Chester fan, is tweeting that Barrow was interviewed and that it didn't go well. Almost suggesting that it was Maguire's fault it didn't go well. A lot of vague tweeting but interesting

John Richardson seems a bit of a shit-stirrer to be honest. Dropping little hints but then saying it will "remain private". If he's a fan, he's undermining the new manager, and if he's a journalist, why doesn't he report it instead of dropping these ambiguous tweets?
Not cool in my opinion.

Barrow should have been appointed end of but I expected the incompetent Maguire to select somebody else to be honest.

Given his day job how many Chester games does he get to? His behaviour is certainly not what you would expect of a fan, and even less so of a journalist/correspondent. He sounds more like the gossipy housewife down the hairdressers. If he's heard rumours that interest or concern him, follow them up. Speak to the people you've heard from, check your facts and make a story out of it. Don't just spit out "I know something but I'm not telling you what" stuff on social media. I've read stuff by this guy before and haven't thought much of it, frankly. He comes across as your typical Daily Express reporter - opinionated, reactionary and condescending.

I think there is a bit of fan divide over the appointment of Bignot, i was personally happy/confident with Bignot, Barrow or Money as manager. I think if things don't go to plan for Bignot, we will see a massive divide in fans, with people quickly saying we should have gone for Barrow.
Whoever took charge, it is always going to be a difficult job with what JM has left behind. Don't get me wrong, we have some really good players in the squad at this level, we also have some serious deadwood, resulting in lack of depth.
Let's hope Bignot knows a left midfielder he can loan in, and we look a bit more organised in a couple of weeks...Rome wasn't built in a day.
A home win would really help him connect with the fans though, so fingers crossed.

I admit I wanted Barrow to come back, and would still welcome him back with open arms in some capacity in the future if/whenever Graham wishes to return to the club. He's a legend at this football club, and will always be respected for the years of service he has given us and the game as a whole as a player, coach, assistant and manager.
If it was not to be with Graham (which it wasn't) then Bignot was my second choice. He's young, highly regarded as an up and coming manager as well. His community work is probably what sold the board on his appointment, as it is well documented how much work he put in at Solihull Moors to get them to consolidate in the Conference Prem.
If/when he brings in his assistant, I would hope very much so that it is someone of the ilk of Whild or Barrow. Someone who has the experience, the contacts, and knows the non-league scene like the back of their hand. We need that experience and list of contacts around this and the levels below in order to identify the next up and coming talent, get them in early before other clubs come sniffing.

My reading of the poll was that there was great indecision, with 32% giving the winning outcome to Bignot, so that is hardly "most supporters."

Bignot got the job.
Saying all this about 'fans divided' etc. Is not really helping matters is it?

Just realised rcb raised my point so deleted other post. It's not unhelpful or helpful really it's just the fact of the matter. 68% of the fans didn't vote for Bignot. That doesn't mean those 68% won;t fully back him though, but it may take him a bit more time to win them over. Maintaining our FL status is the vital task for MB and i have no doubt we can do that and push on a bit.

The split nature of the votes shows the high standard of the applicants I think. It's pretty impressive that despite Bignot and Barrow both being excellent and popular matches to the role, around a third went for someone else.
If one candidate got 80% of the votes, it would suggest that most of the others weren't up to much.

Some more popular than others with fans. A lot of people let hearts rule heads when it comes to a big appointment. I think the club got it right, but it's still a big job.

Its only on here and John "Fishwife" Richardsons twitter that I have seen anybody doubt him to be honest. Most of my mates wanted GB, but are very happy with Marcus Bignot.

😊 Does beg the question did Barrow go into interview with little preparation and whether he expected to get the job based on his legendary status at the club alone Maybe it could have been something simple like....we could not match his wages expectations? GB has managed (or been assistant) at some much bigger clubs and at a much higher level, so maybe we could not afford him?. The way i see it is this...Yes lots applied but we can only hire a suitable manager within our budget, who fits in with our wage structure. So maybe GB was just too expensive?. Maybe also the problems with money for players reared it's ugly head? We as a club have very little money to spend. The new manager will have to find the improvements needed with the players we already have. MB has worked at this level and with little money, so knows how things are in non league football. I am not sure GB has the knowledge or knowhow at this level to be an effective manager. GB will secure a job at a higher level than this so i'm sure he will be fine. I for one am glad he never came here. He has a sort of 'god like' status here which would of erroded if he had failed to deliver. Graham Barrow as manager was one for the romantics who are living on past glories. Marcus Bignot is one for the realists. IMO of course.

( rough figures I know) Anyway, today is the day we get our season started potentially. Huge game for us today, not expecting miracles with MB only having had one training session with the lads. Be interesting to see his first team selection, I can see Shaw featuring.
