Manager Marcus Bignot has been re-united with vastly experienced goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan at Chester FC.
Vaughan returned to Solihull Moors in the summer from Worcester City following their drop to the Midland League.
Birmingham-born Vaughan had left City for Bignot and promoted Moors in the National League during the 2016/17 close-season and made seventeen appearances.
As part of his comeback last season, the 36-year-old former Kidderminster Harriers keeper also turned out for City and their landlords Bromsgrove Sporting.
He was released by Moors at the end of last month and will be remembered for his wonder-goal against Torquay United in late August which saw him win National League player of the month award.

I'd imagine Crump will be released and Mitchell sent back to Burnley unless Lynch is carrying a knock
anyway welcome Nathan hopefully you push for number 1

It's a centre half we need.

My guess is at 36, he'll be backup to Lynch with a possible coaching role in the future. Doubt he'll be costing us much

Lynch took a knock last week which contributed to the hefty amount of stoppage time added, although Mitchell was on the bench. Lost track of how many keepers we actually have to be honest.

Doubt he'll be costing us much Just what I was thinking, if he is going for coaching badges (and given his age that would make a lot of sense) then much (or even all) of his cost to the club could be covered by FA grants and bursaries. In fact this on e comes to mind if he had already applied himself in time - FA grassroots coaching bursary

He clearly doesn't rate Mitchell as Lynch could hardly walk for about 15 minutes last week, but he still didn't bring Mitchell on. In fact not playing any subs until the 84th minute was pretty baffling last week.

Lynch - injured/knock Mitchell - injured + international duty Crumb - only on non contract terms
Probably do need a keeper tbf.
Bignot says any players we are signing are costing us nothing, and anything more than nothing is more than we can afford. So it’s difficult. I’m sure he agrees we need a CB and winger, it’s just finding a club who’ll let us take one on loan for free. Vaughan and Bignot know each other, and Vaughan has a good job so I assume he’ll just be a backup + coach and be earning next to nothing here.

Think you will find that Vaughan became unexpectedly available so MB has moved quickly to sign him up ?

Vaughan between the sticks tomorrow or its a kid who's never played a competitive senior game. Few morons above have egg on their faces now

Quite strange that we have signed another goalie, when we need a centre-back and a winger, but at least we have signed a goalkeeper who can score goals. Has experience and I wish him well. Maybe we do need a fourth as we have one injured and the other 2 are on international duty/non-contract. Welcome to Chester FC Nathan! 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

I think Vaughan will be first choice, Lynch is about on par with John Worsnop. Does'nt come for crosses, very poor kicker and lets in far to many shots from edge of box. Plus he's over weight.

Unless I'm mistaken Vaughan played against us at Solihull this season.
He didn't have a lot to do, but he controlled his box well and came for crosses. He looked the part anyway.
It will be good to have an experienced keeper in the squad. Couldn't really play Mitchell after the errors in the Hartlepool and Gateshead games. MB is working to put together a squad he can trust and rely on. Bringing players in he already knows, speeds that up.

Ok from what I known previously from NV and his time at Moors. He works nights at JLR and they are pretty accommodating with his football commitments. He is a steady keeper and I’m sure MB has been able to sort something out which makes financial sense. Yes we know we need players in other areas. We also know the terms in which these can be signed so to slag MB off for not addressing these areas is naive and embarrassing. Let’s get behind MB and the players as they try to secure our conference status. If that is achieved we will progress under MB. Have we not done so already??

Some have asked reasonable questions about our priorities or are fans not allowed to do so on a football forum?

Do we really need four goalkeepers? Have we actually got four goalkeepers? Isn't Mitchell injured? Think he may have gone back to Burnley. Lynch got injured during the game last week, but played on. Slight doubt for today? The other lad was on week to week as cover while Mitchell was away with Northern Ireland. We've now got two keepers capable of playing. Reading some other posts it looks as if Vaughan has a decent job, and fits that around his football. On that assumption he won't cost much. Presumably we were paying some of Mitchell's wages, especially with him not playing. This move might not cost anything extra to the club. Win Win.

The key to this one is the detail. If he becomes our first choice GK, how many training sessions can he make? We are full time now and you'd want players to be showing that kind of commitment - particularly in light of how critical we have been of others that can't commit. If he is a reserve keeper then the expectation around this would be much less.

Maybe that's one position where an exception could be made, particularly with him being experienced. Also, if you've an experienced keeper, do you still need a goalkeeper coach?

Hannibal that’s a fair odds on bet for us to go down isn’t it? Perhaps we are so short because there probably isn’t four teams worst than us? The table indicates that anyway. I really hope he can keep us up the bookies obviously don’t give us a chance. I’d suggest we need to win three or four of the next 8 games to have a chance?
