Couldn’t get in front of the TV last night I was out and about so listened to Fylde v Wigan on Radio Manchester. Graham Barrow was the match co-commentator/summariser.
Bignot must have put in some interview to beat him to the job! His knowledge of Fylde and the Conference was extremely impressive but his understanding of the game and what should and shouldn’t happen was even more so. He called it perfectly, analytically, tactically and understood the game from start to finish. A very impressive intuitive contribution
Sorry, but somehow I think we (Mr MaGuire) made an error on this appointment, bit like McCarthy’s massive contract.

At the risk of sounding like Whopper I've said before that both Bignot and McCarthy were appointed because they were a fit with the ethos of the club. Give me someone like Barrow any day.

Yes, an impressive character. Met him with a group of fans years back and he came over very well. Does anyone know why he didn't get the job? Given his links with the club and general football experience I would have though there would have been no contest. Rumour on here was he was in and out of the interview pretty quickly. Perhaps he was offered a desultory amount and though obviously keen wasn't prepared to be 'insulted'. Remember he got us promotion but left when he wasn't given an adequate budget.

Did he even apply though ? Although I would personally have approached him.

We're all entitled to an opinion on the manager, and a gut feeling as to how things are going, but I would encourage a bit of patience. It's not really fair to write off Bignot after less than three months in charge and with the scale of his task. We won't get far at all if we don't give managers a bit of support and occasional benefit of the doubt.

Wouldn't matter who we appointed with the current squad, paired with injury of some of out few decent players. We are always going to struggle until we get another summer behind us and try to rebuild a team with passion and hunger to win.

And if you spoke to Chesterfield fans about his time as assistant there you would get a far less rosy picture. They hold him at least partly responsible for their predicament this season and were well pleased to be rid of him.

I would have gone for Barrow if he was an option and affordable, but equally I wasn't on the interview panel. Neither were you, but all the same you again come out with assertions around who decided who the new manager would be - so the question is what is your evidence that the interview panel was one person, or is it another example of baseless accusations from you?

I suspect that MB was significantly cheaper than GB would have been. Obviously MM isn’t going to say that though so he announced it by saying MB had been the best interviewee.
GB was my first choice like but if MB was the best appointment for the club with all things considered then the right decision was made.

That is not a criticism of him, its just as things stand.

If, as seems likely, we're playing regional football next season we have to at least give MB a chance to build his own team. Even then he will be hampered by being stuck with the 2 year deal players.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but they could have spent more on appointing GB & he may still not have kept us up.

We’d never see a spineless and gutless performance like we did last Saturday with Barrow in charge. He’d expect players to give everything. He wouldn’t have tolerated Bell’s unacceptable performance like Bignot seemed to do for 70 plus mins.
For me the jury is out on Bignot. Not seen much improvement since McCarthy left and the performances against Woking and Dagenham were very McCarthy like. The need for width is blindingly obvious yet all we seem to do is sign strikers and goalkeepers.

Also worrying the way in which we seemed to sit back and defend when 2-1 up against a 10 man Orient and ended up lucky to get a point against a managerless team who haven't won in 15 matches and have just been beaten by both Solihull and Torquay. Now that really was McCarthy-esque.

The jury is out on MB and I am not being critical of him. I simply asked if anyone knew why he wasn't offered the role, as on paper and with his connections and success with the club, he was the firm favourite. Can we assume that he was interviewed? If so I Would have thought the club would have given reasons as to why he was overlooked, if he was. As a fans based club, and given his popularity do we not deserve to know? It would just be good to know.

It would be disrespectful to Barrow and any other candidate to start publicly talking about why they didn't get the job.

Hate all this "as a fan owned club we should know" sh*te. At the end of the day it has to be run as a professional business. What professional business would release a statement on why certain candidates were turned down for the role...
We may struggle in some areas as a club, not focusing on some important areas off the field such as growing the fan base and offering initiatives, but we don't have the right to complete transparency at all times, we appoint a board to take care of business matters, one that is trusted to do a job.

I've been having some banter with Orient fans on another forum. It's cheered me up no end. They're looking at their 3rd consecutive relegation and haven't won for nearly 3 months. They do have reasons to be cheerful and they're treating it all as a bit of self-flagellation. Us only the other hand don't have much to joke about as we're unlikely to get past 35 points.

We have reasons to be cheerful the main one being that we have a football club to support albeit not doing very well at the moment. What would we be doing had we not gone fan owned at least we have a future and that's another reason to be cheerful. All teams get relegated at some time then bounce back
