I suppose the whole Labour anti-Semitism thing has been so blown up by the media that Starmer has to be seen to be doing something about it, and Long-Bailey has made herself an easy example to be made of. It's pretty ridiculous though that retweeting an article is seen as complete endorsement of everything mentioned in it. Twitter doesn't exactly allow for objective discussion. I wonder if politicians would do better to stay off it and run their own blogs instead, where they can get their ideas across properly instead of rowing with keyboard warriors in single-sentence exchanges. Thing is, as pointed out above, there was nothing anti-Semitic in it and those who say there was can rightly be accused of anti-Semitism themselves. “The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services.” If you think the above sentence is anti-Semitic you need a brain transplant. Oh, and it makes you an anti-Semite yourself for conflating the actions of Israel’s state with that of all Jews. No, the real reason RLB has been sacked is because she had a massive bust up with Starmer over his support for the governments back to school policy. She was providing the opposition he should’ve been doing.

If that's the case then yes, it does seem like she's just been made a sacrificial figure as she doesn't fit in with a more centralised Labour Party. And I agree that to use 'Jewish' and 'Israeli' interchangeably is anti-Semitic in itself.

A nice impartial source i see Yeah, it's not the most impartial of sources. I sense it is a move to centralise the party, but can't base that on anything more than suspicion.
I'm disappointed in the way Labour is heading myself. If I thought it would help them win an election I might accept it, but I'm not sure it will.

It’s a case of who you believe isn’t it.
Sacked for “anti-Semitism” where there is no evidence whatsoever of anything anti-Semitic;
or
Sacked for a heated exchange/bust-up about a policy which is under her brief where the evidence is from an unnamed inside source

Regardless of the intentions behind her sacking - it paints her, and Maxine Peake in the eyes of the public, as racists. Which is not only patently untrue but is a disgusting weaponisation of racism used either to score petty factional points, or as a piece of PR manoeuvring aimed at appeasing the party's critics and showing Starmer as a strong leader. A very sorry affair.

This is something I've been thinking about on a vaguely Brexit-related note, but moreover to do with xenophobia and our attitude to minority groups.
The last 10 days have seen two awful stabbing incidents. For the one in the park in Reading, we heard the names and saw the pictures of the three fatalities. All happened to be white (although I'm not sure terrorists are too picky about who they kill) and that knob-end from Burnley used the incident as an excuse for his 'White Lives Matter' plane banner.
With the stabbings at the hotel housing asylum seekers, I've seen and heard a lot about the white police officer who was injured, and he is rightly being commended for his bravery. However, all I've seen reported about the other five victims is their ages, that they were all male and that they were either living or working at the refuge. Who are they? What's their story? They seem to be anonymised in the reporting.
I know the two situations aren't the same. For a start, hopefully there are no fatalities in the Glasgow incident. But for me, it highlights a lot of the points the Black Lives Matter movement is all about. Are we as shocked and saddened by stabbings in an asylum seekers' refuge as we are in a Home Counties public park? Are they handled by the police, and reported by the media, with the same level of care and compassion?

A quite simply dumbfounding transcript of a real situation that developed following one family’s realisation of what Brexit actually means for them and their home abroad.
I promise you will not be disappointed if you make it to the end. This is genuine and will hopefully brighten up your miserable Wednesday...

We’ll find out on Friday what transpires.
I have no reason not to believe this - seen loads of examples of idiot British immigrants voting for Brexit not realising they and their second homes/retirement homes would be affected.

I'd be more bothered about him using 'immigrants', when he meant 'emigrants'!

How would you feel about the use of the word if a member of your family had mental problems. You are all p c when it suits. These words were used to categorise patients at the deva hospital In the 18 and 1900s.i am absolutely certain we have had this discussion before I don't like the use of those words but if you are happy with them that's up to you

'Idiot' and 'stupid' are rightly no longer used as medical terms. The meaning of the word has changed to describe people who behave badly or show ignorance.

So he wasn't using it as an insult. By the way how do you know how he was using it. He was using it as an insult, yes, but not specifically to suggest that they are people with an IQ below 25, or whatever the official definition of an idiot was many moons ago.
I see where you're coming from, but the professional use of the word 'idiot' is so far back in the past, it no longer has that meaning. I dislike insults like 'retard' and 'spaz', because they are still directed at people with cerebral palsy and other mental disabilities, and when used towards people without them it equates such disabilities with foolish behaviour and low intelligence. With 'idiot' though, it's so long ago, the original meaning of the word is little more than a historic point of etymology.

I think it says more about the person using it. Did it make his point any stronger. In my book it fits in the same way as foul language both add nothing to any debate. It basically shows anger. and the user has no other way of expressing themselves

I'd like people not to call each other 'idiots' on here, but to direct it at a politician or anonymous person isn't really a problem. It's unlikely they'll be reading Deva Chat!

Truly bizarre how some posters can feel comfortable with the deaths of tens of thousands people through incompetence yet become angry over the mildest of insults to anonymous people.
