Any chance someone from the club, or someone with links to the club could confirm the situation with an assistant manager who doesn't appear at half our games because of TV commitments. Is this going to last while he sees his contract out, the end of the season or is this just the deal? Because I think it's quite clear that in the long term it's a totally untenable arrangement. What happens if McCarthy is unwell and can't do a game? Who steps in to run the team? (I'm available by the way).

I didn't want to be the one to start this thread but I did want it to be started, thanks for that! The situation is ridiculous, and the argument that he does his work on the training ground in the week is starting to fall down given our relegation form of late.

If McCarthy is happy with it then I don't see a problem. Haven't seen any difference in how the team does when he is there compared to when he is.

I think we should be told!!!!
Personally I'd like to see a "good cop, bad cop" setup where the baddie is "expressing his views forcibly" to the players and officials as Macca seems to be the more studious type. Sharps was pretty good at it, I think we miss him
However, that's Macca's call as is the use of Iwelumo

I want people working for the club to give their absolute commitment, 100%. If you aren't there on a match day because of other commitments then I'm sorry, I don't trust that their heart is fully in the job.

Jimmy Soul would do a great job. He works tirelessly week in week out, love him. Calum McIntyre goes to all the games so I imagine it would be him.

It's not ideal but both parties must have been aware of his contractual obligations with C5 and Sky. It would just be nice to know if it's just short term.

The support I had of McCarthy completely went when he made the idiotic decision to appoint HIS Assistant who he knew wouldn't be there all the time, I'd love to know who the other 2 with Football League management experience in the frame were. An absolutely shocking appointment. Only at Chester.

Interesting one this what's our form been liked since he arrived? Yes we have scored more but I don't think points wise it's made any difference. Would rather Chris be a coach on a consulting basis, and use the budget to bring in some one full time, don't get me wrong it's Jon mac decision who he wants but I don't get this Saturday thing JM need support and some one with experience to fall back on a Saturday, personally would of liked some one 100% committed and not 80% because of other commitments therefore you can't be fully committed no matter how you look at it.

I sit just behind the players tunnel and during the Solihull game McCarthy looked a forlorn figure as the 5 on the Solihull bench completely dominated the referee. Macca complained to the 4th official, who completely ignored him. The theory that we're missing Sharps has substance as this run of mediocre/bad form has coincided with him leaving and being replaced with an oft absent replacement.

A couple of losses and the knives are out, nothing much changes It's more than a couple of losses, it's 5 from last 7 and the knives aren't out.

A couple of losses and the knives are out, nothing much changes That's bollocks. It's a reasonable point to question why our assistant manager doesn't even turn up to half the games and how ling that arrangement will last. Get a grip.

Fairly sure Mecca cleared up the current arrangement in the press a few weeks ago. It's probably still on the Chronicle site.

Could also argue that Alabi's up turn in form has been down to Iwelumo. Not saying it is or isn't, but easy to blame bad results on him. Alabi has looked a different player since Iwelumo arrived - coincidence?

The question of Iwelumo's media commitments has been raised many times and answered by Macca and the club. He was taken on with the club and manager agreeing to his current commitments in the media for THIS SEASON. The situation is going to be reviewed come the end of the season.

Strange how the Iwelumo issue never happens to come up after we win a game isn't it? When did we win a game? i genuinely can't remember! I know that he can coach all week but I think a manager needs someone to bounce off at any level during the match. Macca looks lost in worry at times as he considers the next move.

If McCarthy is happy with it then I don't see a problem. Haven't seen any difference in how the team does when he is there compared to when he is. Something to bare in mind...JM openly said we couldn't afford someone like Chris full time. If his television work is on Saturday then that takes priority. I'm sure there is an interview from JM on this exact question if anyone has a link?

JM did say that, but that's because he's cuckold.
If Iwelumo couldn't be there on a match day we should have hired someone else.
