Two keepers is not a necessity I don't think. I rate both Roberts and Lynch, but I don't really think the current situation where we're unsure who's going to be in goal from one game to the next is helping either of them. I'd prefer Macca to pick one and stick with him.
I'd rather have another outfield player in the squad than a second keeper. People might say what if the keeper gets sent off and injured in a match, and the answer is that we'd just have to put an outfield player in goal (Hunt might do alright going by Dagenham!) and hope for the best. It's a bummer, but it doesn't happen often and would only be for one game. We could soon bring someone in on loan for the next game.

I would keep from the current squad: Lynch Hunt Astles Hudson Waters Shaw Durrell Akintunde Richards Mahon possibly consider Horwood and Killock, subject to fitness, but unlikely to keep am optimistic we can get Lloyd, and assume Alabi and Hughes will go. losing George, Joyce is not problematic, losing Vassell and Roberts more so. Gives room in the squad for another goalie, right back, Centre-half, two central midfielders, two forwards of which 2 or 3 should be season long loans. doesnt seem disasterous, provided the new players are all 1st XI quality from the start. I don't get how people slate certain players and want them gone, yet say they may keep Killock next season? He's not played a game, it's terrible luck with injury but unless he starts playing and looking like The player we have on loan a couple years ago, I'd have to get rid. Can't afford passengers even if it's not his fault.

It may well do. I think though, that goal keeping is special exception to the rule in that a keeper needs to be relaxed and not fearing for his place after every mistake. A manager needs to trust in a keeper and build his confidence - it's really no good to be going into a game worrying about making errors.

Surely having two keepers is worth it just for training?

Agree with every single one those apart from Richards. However, I would invite Killock back to pre-season to see if he can prove his fitness. First out of the door for me would be Durrell. Has anyone seen him actually try and make a tackle. Makes Rooney look like Pirlo! I don't get all the anti Durrell stuff. OK! He's inconsistent but he's our only creative player. He's not here to tackle...plenty of them around. Assume you weren't at Borehamwood? People were saying the same thing about Rooney.

Chronicle 14/02/17 the 30-year-old says he would be happy to pull on a blue and white shirt again next season and has already had discussions with the Blues hierarchy about extending his stay. "There are still a few bits here and there to sort out but I am very keen to stay" www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chester-fc-midfielder-tom-shaw-12598782

I don't really disagree, but would want to select the squad on what they can do next season rather than what they did this, though it is hard to ignore this season to the extent of Killock's fitness. I suppose at this time Killock gets a bit of leeway having played well previously.
I don't think we've seen the best of George, but last weekend made me think we never will.
A big part of this will be down to who we can bring in.

Luke George won north west player of the year. I know it's not his fault he won it, but it means expectation is much higher, particularly as he's our captain. I'm yet to see a performance that made me think 'this lad is the best in the north west non-league scene the way he's playing'. Not even close.

That came with him playing a bit further forward with a bit of freedom with Joyce sitting very static in front of the back four. He took his goal well and hit the post. It might work each now and then away from home but not at the Deva.

Youngsters Jamie Morgan, Lucas Dawson & Liam Davies all currently on trial at Chester. Deals could become permanent if they impress.

how do you have a smaller squad?
ok we have 2 GKs (1 loan) 4 CBs, 2 LBs, 1 RB( Loan), 4 CMs if include lloyd on loan and 3 wide players with 3 strikers.
added to this 2 swettenhams YTS lads.
hardly room for cuts there.
oh and O'Brian and Marsh who haven't played.

You'd think the tribunal fee we receive for Sam Hughes would be used to bolster the squad to make a real fist of the playoffs next season. As the amount is as yet unknown maybe it hasn't been taken into consideration? Did see somewhere that if and when the budget is increased the first priority would be to cover the cost of upping training from 3 to 4 days a week.

If it's cut slightly but we add serious quality and keep our best players it's still a risk, but could be one worth taking. Loans will again play a big part for us next year i think.

Hardly surprising when you look at our attendances this season.

On the positive side, the teams not using as many players are mostly doing a lot better.

I questioned Macca's decision last summer to retain most of last season's squad, especially after so many underperformed and losing Heneghan, Hannah and Rooney. But to be fair he and Sharps managed to get the best out of the likes of Astles, Hunt, Shaw, Lloyd, Hughes and Alabi.
Replacing Hughes and Alabi will be a big challenge and there certainly won't be much room for error if the budget and squad is trimmed next seaaon.

I think Alabi will be the bigger loss. I think Sharps was the biggest loss. I think the bigger loss was the missing 1,000 fans through the gate personally
