It's a shame but needed to happen, writing has been on the wall for sometime. It might actually be worth starting to post again.

Yep, looks like lots of new blood already.
This forum is already busier than the old one! Crying shame it all went to shit but the break needed to happen.

At long last! All I wanted was a forum to post my views but my attempts to register (months ago!) with the old version were ignored. By definition, if there is not a critical mass of members (and this includes people who wanted to join the old version) the forum cannot be seen as a reflection of the supporters views on the club and this is why it is dying on it's feet. This new forum is exactly the right thing to do in these circumstances - I just hope that it doesn't degenerate into a "Twitbook" level of personal vindictiveness and bile and that it provides a medium whereby people can post predominantly sensible views (including justifiable criticism) so that the Club might just appreciate the value it can bring over time

Sad ending for the old Devachat, but I agree that for various reasons it has probably outlived its usefulness. This forum has everything the old one did and more, and works a lot better on a mobile device. I expect it will catch on.
I just hope the old one doesn't disappear completely. If nothing else, it's a great archive of fans' views over the last 10+ years, which have been the most eventful in the club's history.
I may also take this new beginning as an opportunity to change my user name, which I've thought was pretty dorky since the moment I came up with it to be honest.

Great idea this Si. I remember the early days of Devachat, a great place to waste hours at work!

The club gets some free Football Manager games every year as the part of the deal that they are in it. "The club" put them on ebay for £10 last year (against £30 odd in shops) but didn't limit amount. Believe 100 and odd were sold before someone realised (club had a limited amount, 30 possibly) and a boatload of refunds, apology emails etc were done incurring days of paid hours etc. All the negative feedback received means this is no longer an option for the club to sell down, which is a pity as things like match worn shirts etc do well on there for fundraising. One in many I believe... This is quite clearly and error of judgement and shouldn't have happened, but surely the club can just create a new eBay profile? It's actually surprisingly easy to be banned from eBay as a business seller (I've had experience of it! ). From memory, I think you only need something like 1% of your feedback to be negative over a period of a more than a few months and you are banned from selling indefinitely. When I was banned, they also banned everybody else registered at my address until they could prove they weren't me. Very draconian. But yeah, the club could just set up a new eBay account - problem being they would have to change their "address" to something other than what it was originally (I assume Bumper's Lane) or else they will just be banned again. Of course, this is assuming the club's eBay account was "banned" (or restricted to buying only), which is what I assumed happened from NWAS' post.

Its encouraging to see respected posters join this forum, in addition to guest contributions and old posters returning.

I'm done with Deva Chat. 3 bans over past 6 months and none of the mods will acknowledge they banned me or say why I was banned.
I'm happy to come on here if you are allowed to have a different (sometimes) opinion.

Great move. That other forum is run by a dictatorship of two castaways that rarely (if ever) see the club play.

At last, a new forum that can (hopefully) be kept up-to-date, improved and have new users on.
I just hope this one doesn't try and go too far the other way and have no moderation at all. Don't get me wrong, DC seemed OTT and a bit of banter is great, but if this place gets riddled with trolls and wannabe hooligans then it'll quicky go to the dogs. Hope not though.

I think its a case of seeing how it goes for a little while and if the need arises for moderation then we can see who fancies it.

Thanks for setting this up Si. Agree with the above, the forum should be able to self-moderate and hopefully there will never be a need to appoint people to do the job. See how we get on first but so far, so good in that it has been a little over 12 hours without somebody being banned or put on moderation so we're doing alright so far!

I personally never had a problem with any of the DC moderators but if the stories were true (I have no reason to doubt they were) then unfortunately it does sound as though the forum has been the master of it's own downfall.
One or two clearly didn't understand that their role was not to delete anything they disagreed with, it was to make sure nothing was posted that was blatantly abusive and/or liable to some kind of legal impact!!
Be really interesting to see how this board develops.

It all looks good so far, I just hope the Club embraces the new forum. One of the few recent bright spots on DC were Alan's posts.

Looks good. Had to abbreviate my old user name for some reason though. You can add capital letters and space bars etc in your Profile settings - you had to use lower case and no spaces to register.
