Interested to see which category people fall in, and also whether you are someone who believes in the fan owned model by becoming a CFU member and whether this has changed?

Very thought provoking topic I voted to stay fan owned but how would I feel if a consortium perhaps headed by a person with Chester conections Owen or Rush perhaps how would I feel then. The answer is I don’t know but if the unlikely ever happened you would have to ask me again😀

CFU member and Private Ownership.
We haven’t got the fanbase to be fan owned. Just going to keep falling down the pyramid playing infront of 600 people. We’re better than that. We’ve lost half of our fanbase and we will only get them back if we’re competing in the conference at least . The novelty of being fan owned has worn off.

Sorry just copying and pasting my post from another thread...
Any rich benefactor would be very welcome to invest in the club - I'm sure we would welcome them with open arms. Of course, they'd have to accept the "one share one vote" method of ownership we have but if they weren't happy with that then you would have to question their motive.
CFU member, stay fan-owned.

CFU membership did not stop the mindless few ruining things for the majority. We could have progressed this season with the correct manager and financial management. They wouldn’t listen to the majority. As it presently stands with a significant loss of support we don’t have enough supporters for the fan owned model to work without constantly asking all those who currently are to continue to dig deep. I’m not sure what the way forward is but it’s difficult to be optimistic. There is certainly a lot of work on that’s for sure. We need to think very carefully about the sort of gates we are budgeting on and season ticket prices, pay on the gate etc.

CFU member, stay fan owned. Imagine if we’d come into financial difficulty with a private owner. We’d have no idea we were in trouble until they decided to pull the plug, which they could all too easily do.
Being fan owned, those at the top you can be sure have the genuine interests of the club at heart, sure they might make mistakes from time to time - some bloody big ones - but you know there’s no malice involved.
How do you really know the motivates of a private owner? After all it is just a business to them. Remember Vaughan? Lauded as a saviour until he decided to get his cronies involved and using our club for dodgy dealings. It’s happened to us before and it could just as easily happen again. Some people have very short memories.
Even if we had someone who really cared about the club in charge, what if something happened and they died? We’d be left with no money overnight. Look at Blackburn now that the Walker money has dried up. Fan owned is best for the long term security of this club as long as we are all on board and care about it.

CFU member and stay fan owned. However this may yet prove to be unsustainable do to the numbers game. Do we realistically have enough fans committed and able to increase their personal funding of the club on a regular basis, and this probably means every member, now over 1500, committing to an extra £100 per year and to get gates of 2000+ just to be competitive at as a Conf N/Conference yoyo club. That is the reality. If it proves not to be sustainable, and I think next season will be the first acid test, then would I rather have no club or a privately owned club is a question that each of us will have to face. Personally I would not wish to see the club to fold if we as fans are unable to make a success and would accept an alternative ownership model in that case.

Ideally fan owned, but we are seeing that when results are poor the floating fans drift away. That happens at every club, so we are not unique, but the question is whether we have sufficient numbers who will stick with it to see us through the rough times. My other concern is getting sufficient expertise on the board. We've seen what happens when complacency sets in...pretty much anyone can get elected with disastrous results. What happens when the likes of Banksy, NWAS, Simon O, Laurence K decide they've done their bit? We don't have an unlimited supply of great candidates willing to give up the time it takes to run a football club properly and seek the investment we need.. It's a huge commitment.

For me we’ve attempted it and proven that it’s not possible that we can progress up the footballing pyramid as it stands. I would prefer to go 51 / 49 with CFU holding the 51%.

Not sure whether a serious investor would be willing to put in a wad of money for a minority holding, especially taking into account the amateurish financial dealings of the last incompetent board. I would want more control of how my money was going to be spent.

For me, we should only turn our backs on fan owned model after we can honestly said we'd given it our best shot and failed. We've made a bit of a hash of it so far, despite some great memories made along the way - its still early days running the club this way and plenty of ideas/opportunities that are yet to be put in place. If after all that, we are still desperately struggling then hard decisions might need to be made, but until then we just need to be better at what we do. Other clubs have done it, why can't we? Yes, in an ideal world someone with the club at heart would invest some money and not want anything in return other than the warm fuzzy feeling, but I'd say that's pretty unlikely.

You'd think anyone who want's private ownership would learn it's not worked for us. We need to stick to being fan owned and be patient. Any private owner who would take over would need to be prepared to take over and lose a lot of money, who would want to do that.

Why are so many people eager to get back to a model that failed us so desperately? Also why are people always looking to the league above as the place we need to be? To enjoy watching your team the only things you need to be are competitive in the division you are in and have a belief that promotion is achievable.
We've made mistakes as a fans owned club. Mostly down to inexperience and our initial over achieving on the pitch. But I think now we are in a position where we have learnt the lessons that will ultimately allow us to become that competitive club at Conf National level. Next year will be a struggle, but if enough people stand by the model to buy us that little time to find our feet again then I have no doubt that the step back that this terrible season has forced us to make will be in our long term interest.
Have a little patience and faith people. I'm fucked if I'm ever standing by and allowing another Vaughan / Smith / Gutterman / Barnes / Cross et al to take the piss out of my club again. Give yourselves a slap.

im all for a fan owned model...but to make it work we need to have a significant fan base to cost ratio , for us just to compete in this league we will need the same amount of returning supporters as say Wrexham (fan Owned), which is about 4500 + on average ...and we haven't got it here, or ever likely, its just not going to happen...plus add to that we have been very unprofessionally run as well , which also hasn't helped,if someone approached the club and passed a very thorough due diligence test...we would really have to look at it as a possibility.....but there again...that aint going to happen either..

Even McCarthy made us competitive for six months on a lower budget than this season before over ambition and his shocking inability to recruit and put together a balanced squad kicked in. I don't believe that we have to be generating the same level of income as Wrexham to be competitive in Conference National. We just need to box a lot more clever than we have up until now.

They wouldn’t listen to the majority. You are wrong, it did stop. Because we are a democratic cooperative model we could - and did - change the board and the chairman. I would like to know how you think that accountability, that key democratic power we hold, that ability to change who is in charge at the top, would happen if we were privatised? I do not believe for a second it would, and then what would you suggest we could do about poor leadership if it happened without any hope of change and voting people out?

There was no way they could have remained at the helm and pressure from us, the owners, forced them to do the right thing and stand down.
Do you think a private owner would do the same? No. A private owner would just baton down the hatches and run it into the ground just like Vaughan did.
I'm damned if I'm going to see OUR football club fall into the hands of a person/s only in it for themselves as an ego trip. We deserve more than that. All the shit we've been through the past 30 years is too much to just go back to that.
Wow we've failed to win a few games, we failed to win and were relegated more times than I wish to remember under private ownership. If you truly care about football in this City then prove it.

Why people want to give up all influence for a thousand to one shot that an "investor" coming into CFC would be nothing but good intentioned and not only good intentioned but successful in what they did absolutely baffles me. Maybe they just haven't thought it through?

I am a CFU member but voted for private ownership as ultimately this will be the only way we will survive. My ideal arrangement would be a shared ownership with someone putting in money and having places on the Board. If it works they could have a majority of Board members with CFU having a minority membership. As there are no shares this would be the equivalent of having 49% ownership which could be increased to over 50% if we have confidence in the investor.

What a ridiculous comment - This isn't about 'failing to win a few games and being relegated' - in case you haven't noticed, we are broke and there is no certainty that we can continue.

I'm still backing the fan ownership model 100%
Don't get me wrong this season has been a horrible one to watch.
But I can't think of anything worse than an owner in the mold of Blackpool, Leeds, Charlton etc.... We have the club in our hands and we can ultimately make it work.
This season we've had the biggest budget since reforming buts its the worst we've ever done !!! Macclesfield are comfortably sat top of the league with a very small budget. The recruitment in the summer was utter utter garbage. Having the right manager in place who delivers the right motivation/tactics and installs an actual level of fitness will be a good base to build from.
Start the season well with home wins and the fans will come back on board.
Put this together with the right advertisement/promotion campaign. The student area is a massive target that we've hardly touched upon? - Hopefully the fanzone will also come together over the summer. - Theres so many business units/shops around the Sealand road area, why not offer a "Business Ticket" for companies for a set price for the season. Which gives them a pair tickets x 10 home games to hand out to employees every few weeks. Company logo in the match day programme etc...
