Woking must love us. Three points every time they play us and we’re doing them a favour today.

Woking must love us. Three points every time they play us and we’re doing them a favour today. Yep, always think of them as a bogey team. That list of bogey sides seemed to grow every week this season! Thank god it's all over. The clean up operation can properly begin and I look forward to seeing several of these wastrals shown the door. Around October time I wondered if the Barrow game could be a relegation decider. It was a depressing thought, but not half as depressing as how it ended up unfolding. Promotions and relegations are what football is about and the only consolation is that because our fate was sealed so gradually, we were spared that final day agony - the sort that Woking will be experiencing now. This awful season was avoidable but it wont be in vain if we learn from our mistakes. There's much to learn.

A good result all round for us. Delighted for Thomson at right back to be part of a winning team, looks like he'll be a good player for us.
Also, glad Barrow stayed up because it will hopefully get Kingsley James a permanent move there.

All things considered, it couldn’t have gone much better for us today really. Rare away win, ex-youth player scoring the winner again with a great young coach in charge.
Barrow stay up (by the skin of their teeth), Wrexham stay down. 😉
Let’s now focus on our future, get behind the new manager when he’s announced and do our part to help get this club back to winning ways on a regular basis.

Yep, well done all. Especially delighted for Calum and Tom, local lads and a credit to the club and themselves.

Great win that, players wanted it and they dug deep and got it. The type of win we’ve been missing all season. Every player walked along the edge of the away end and shakes every fans’ hand. Cal Mac comes over to a group of us with the words ‘You deserve that lads’, he bows out with a fantastic win. 👏👏

How did Thompson play today? Came up against some pretty lanky Barrow lads on the wing which proved a bit of a challenge. Some dodgy clearances here and there, one in field almost leading to a goal, but overall not too bad.

Good that we did our bit even though Woking lost anyway.

My nephew supports Woking, living a few minutes from the ground. Al his wealthy mates support the usual London Premiership teams. Sorry for him. We did our best to help them.

Happy that Crawford scored on what could be his last game for us. Would love it if we could keep him. Looking forward to seeing us pick up a trophy next month.

Sounds like a decent, solid performance - well done to all.
Looking at the final table, and of course you can analyse ad nauseum, we ended up 12 points off safety. A big gap but not gigantic over the course of the whole season. Perhaps the most telling figures are the goals for/against. Lowest scorers in the league, many, many goals conceded (especially from set pieces and schoolboy errors). A couple of wins earned by being a bit more aggresive and/or ruthless could have made a big difference but, hey, it's all history now.
Relieved it's all over but can't help the feeling of "what might have been" if we'd sorted ourselves out both on and off the field.
For most clubs, it generally now goes a bit quiet for a few weeks. Certainly won't be the case for us!

Wouldn't mind seeing Akintunde and Halls staying to be honest, as long as we can get them on acceptable wages. Both versatile players who care about the club and put a shift in.

Sounded a great win but no mention of archer if he stays we have a player there next year looking more forward to next season now than I was

I'd keep Halls. H'es taken some really unnecessary shit on here and to be fair stuck with it during the toughest times of this season, put some good performances in, and, I sense helped some of the younger lads along.
Akintunde does work hared but has little end product. However, if we can keep him at a good rate, might be worth seeing how he fares a league below. He does have some skill.

Excellent result today which was a great end to a woeful season. As you could imagine the home atmosphere was quite edgy at the start, but Barrow dominated the play in the first 10 or so minutes. As soon as we got into the game though, we were brilliant. Our youth players handled the atmosphere really well and were solid as well as our seniors.
Andy Firth made some great saves and was solid too. I will be gutted to see him go back to Liverpool as I thought he performed well here, and cared a lot about us as well. Jordan Archer’s goal was good. He ran at the Barrow defence and slotted home perfectly, then ran over to the 98 travelling supporters.
In the second half Barrow came out of the blocks again. At the time they were staying up but there players still wanted to get a goal. They did get that after a series of chances which spurred them onto get another. However, Tom Crawford slotted into the bottom corner in the opposite end to send us all wild. I’m really pleased for the lad as he had been a real success story for both us and our city. He’s surely one of our players of the season.
We held on in the end and I was delighted that we won. From a Chester fans’ perspective, it’s not often that you go to a game only to see both teams celebrating at the final whistle. Commiserations to Woking for going down. To be honest they have won this season’s award for ‘Performing A Chester FC’ as they have dramatically slumped from play-off contenders to relegation fodders. We stayed up last season by the skin of our teeth, but Woking have tried their best to do an impression of ourselves 😉.
It was also a great touch by our players and staff to greet the 98 loyal fans at the final whistle individually as they shook our hands. I’m really made up for Calum too as it must’ve been a brilliant feeling to guide us to a victory from his point of view. He came over too and is working wonders.
Some may not agree but I actually wouldn’t mind if we retained a portion of this squad for next season. I really do think that the likes of Archer, Gough, Anderson and Roberts can offer us something along with Jones, Crawford and the youth players. Of course our new manager will bring in his own fresh blood, but I wouldn’t mind one bit if the above were to stay here.
It’s great to have ended our 5-year stay in the National League on a positive note. This season has been the stuff of nightmares but moments like this brighten it up a little. Ironically we have done the double over Barrow (the only team who we have done this against this campaign) which makes it a bit sweeter. I’m just keeping the faith now. I’m looking forward to next season now, and don’t think it will turn out as bad as some think. We won’t bounce back straight away but hopefully we can in say 2-3 years. Let’s see who our new manager is and get behind whoever it will be. Let’s refresh ourselves over the Summer and I’m sure that the usual ‘pre-season optimism’ will sink in shortly. Keep the faith guys!
