Major injury news coming out of the England camp ahead of Sunday's game against Panama - manager Gareth Southgate has dislocated his shoulder whilst running.

Maybe it’s just me, but why do referees ignore the laws for free kicks and throw ins? They should be taken from the place where the incident occurred, but most encroachment is now getting ridiculous. Throw ins near the corner flags regularly move up ten yards. Free kicks near the touch line are regularly brought infield at least five yards. And why do referees with a step length of 80cm think eight steps is ten yards?

Iran have equalised and it's being reviewed. What a bummer. Jammy Spanish barstewards.

Has anybody used the BBC's virtual reality app yet? It's pretty cool to be fair, offering you an IMMERSIVE experience. The sofa and cushions are comfy too... I tried it out the other day for the Mexico game and I must say, it’s really impressive. It feels like you are receiving hospitality treatment lol.

Iran were very impressive and could still go through with a result v Portugal or as pundits are calling them 'Ronaldo'. Unlikely but they deserve something.... Players were physically strong and skillful ......could we sign a couple or will Brexit stop that?

Iran were very impressive and could still go through with a result v Portugal or as pundits are calling them 'Ronaldo'. Unlikely but they deserve something.... Players were physically strong and skillful ......could we sign a couple or will Brexit stop that? They do look very well set up. Realistically they need a win against Portugal to go through - even a draw would mean they would need Morocco to beat Spain by two goals. It's unlikely, but they're very well organised and hardworking, and if they can keep Ronaldo quiet it's not impossible. I'd love it if it happened. Really all three games yesterday were killed as spectacles by one team's tactics, but I can appreciate it when it's Iran or even Uruguay, which is a small nation. Portugal just irritate me though - their tactics just seem to be to give it to Ronaldo and ride their luck.

Hard to not be pleased with our efforts against France but also what could have been. VAR is now public enemy 1 with Australia. I just don't see how you can come back 3 minutes later and give the penalty, what if Australia had gone up the other end and scored. Infuriating. Umtiti lucky to not get red for the handball too. Anyways on to our next game against Denmark with renewed hope I imagine it's a bit more popular now!

I think the clock should be stopped whilst this is reviewed, and the clock restarted at the time of the penalty.

I don't think that one should have been given. Not clear and obvious.

I think a penalty and fouls in that matter need to more black and white, instead of left upto the refs interpretation. As there is too much left to what a ref deems harsh, or not harsh enough. I'd also like to see all diving and fake injuries yellow carded.

Earlier on in this thread I predicted Argentina to be this year’s ‘biggest flop’. Boy, have they been woeful.

This Croatia team reminds me of the one that reached the semis in 1998, and that game tonight was reminiscent of their 3-0 dismantling of Germany in that tournament. That game was widely seen as the end of an era for Germany, who were poor for much of the next decade. Argentina could well go the same way, with Messi not getting any younger and no other Argentine player seemingly anywhere near his level.

Argentina are the biggest disappointment of the tournement. Really poor for all their quality. Take Messi out of Barcelona and he is not the same player.

Just got in from a late meeting and decided to watch the highlights on ITV. I am absolutely over the moon that Croatia have beaten the Argies 3-0. And to see the fat cheat Maradona's face after the 3rd went in. Better than winning the pools.

Weirdly I was going to post how it reminded me of that game when they beat Germany 3-0, in both instances Croatia always looking a threat going forward against a side past their best and clinging to the past. Prior to the tournament I had a feeling Argentina might do a Portugal at Euro 2016 and have the sort of tournament where their luck holds round after round. My gut feeling was they would have had a serious wake-up call after narrowly avoiding failing to qualify but ultimately their failings are clear - especially in defence. That said, I still wouldn’t rule them out sneaking through if Iceland fail to beat Nigeria today.

Yeah, Iceland are expected to win today, which is a bit of an unusual situation for them.
If they do, though, it means Croatia and Iceland could play out a draw that would see Croatia top and Iceland through in second. I don't think they would do that, but I could see a game where Iceland camp in their own half and Croatia hardly bust a gut to find a goal.

Dead spot on haha Australian public are up in arms that Cahill didn't come on last night, which i tend to agree with Tommy Juric isn't great, at least the 18yr old Arzani turned it on with his brief cameo

You look at their team and it looks a bit short of quality, plus they weren't convincing in qualification, but they're not giving anyone an easy time. The same was true last World Cup actually even though they lost all three games.

I think I saw it around 20 times last season but can't remember where.

I think I saw it around 20 times last season but can't remember where. Both incredible players - we can count ourselves very fortunate that they've been in our generation. For me, Messi is definitely the best because he's the ultimate team player as well as being supremely talented. Perhaps that's why Ronaldo shines more at international level - because he's always had that, for the want of a better word, 'selfish' streak, which means he's less exposed when surrounded by lesser players.

For these somewhat annoying 'Complete Confidence' adverts on ITV, I wonder if Volkswagen have lived up to their own slogan and already paid for and scheduled them throughout the World Cup, even after England go out?
