Hi folks. Just thought I seek a few views on what Sterling brings to the party. We've arrived at the quarter final in spite of him starting 3 of the 4 games. I would prefer it if he didn't start and was available to come off the bench near the end. I feel he is the reason attacks break down, he regularly fails to beat a defender, always seems to lose the ball, misses reasonable chances (2 goals in 35 apps) and has no physical strength. Southgate must have a blind spot or am I missing something? I would prefer it if Vardy played off Kane from the off, but feel that Southgate will pick Sterling.

He is a master of diving and con-merchant supreme. Premiership referees must be embarrassed when replays show how much the little cheat has conned them. The quicker VAR stops such antics the better. Despite what I think of him he has been successful at what he does these past two years. Much of football these days is about beating the referee as well as the opposition.

He has pace but no footballing brain and tends to run into blind alleys. Personally I would go for Rashford.

He isn’t a striker but in this formation where else does he play? Right wing back? Attacking mid? Or on the bench...

Just doesn't seem to play well for England, for whatever reason. Maybe one of those players who needs world class players around him? Always thought Lampard was similar - very effective for Chelsea with the likes of Makelele and Essien behind him, but for England he never looked like he was contributing enough.

You may not see what he brings to the party, but did we improve when he came off on Tuesday? Definitely not. We looked a whole lot worse and our shape was awful.

He was excellent against Panama and Colombia. He's a bit like Sean McConville I think, he does lots of work up front that just isn't appreciated. Rashford is a better option off the bench too.

Speaking to a Man City fan during the Colombia game, he reckons even when Stirling isn't playing well, he helps drag players out of position and create more space for his team mates.
I think maybe he's a player who you notice more when he's not playing.

People on a forum saying a man who has just scored 18 goals and 11 assists in the premier league has no footballing brain. You couldn't write it

This. His pace drags players out of position and keeps defenders worried.

Not a natural finisher, but if you can't see what he brings to the table for England then I have a feeling you don't know too much about football.

I'd like him to play and score if only to ram it right up them racist tools at the Daily Mail and the S*n I don't really think they appreciate the irony of anything like that. Kind of like a couple of weeks ago when they had an anti-migrant story on the front page alongside a positive feature about Lenny Henry, a son of two Jamaican immigrants.

You couldn't write it Compared to someone like Ineista, Hazard, Mertens etc. He hasn't. Scoring goals in the Premier is far different. to being consistently good on the International stage. That is why they are world class and he isn't or haven't you noticed?
