Right then we KO our season on Saturday against Spennymoor Town. Spennymoor finished in a respectable 8th position last season and should provide us with a good level of competition for our first game back in the Conference North. Spennymoor have made seven signings so far this pre season including former York and Guiseley forward Adam Boyes as they look to improve on their league position from last season.
So what are your thoughts on this match and for the season ahead?

I suspect Boyes is the player whom AJ referred to as the best centre forward in the division until we signed Dudley.
Never know what to make of the first game of the season, and we have a torrid historical record (seven wins in the 28 seasons since 1990). Will take a draw.

We have had a decent pre-season, but we're still conceding at an alarming rate. A very tough start imo.

I've been away from Bumpers Lane since the reformation, after following the club since I was 10 in 1984. Life and health have not allowed it, I probably won't make Saturday due to personal matters. But I'm hoping to have opportunity to be back as much as I can this year. And the influx of talent has left me very excited for the year ahead.

Tough start no doubt, these are no duffers in this league and have had a decent pre-season themselves. However I feel the team will be confident, and certainly motivated and ready. The confidence levels will rocket with a win for both the team and the fans. I fancy us 2-1.

The most important thing is that we aren't complacent. Too many big clubs have arrived in this division in recent years and struggled - look at Stockport and York. I don't think this will happen to us, purely because of our management team, but fans need to have realistic expectations as well. It's hard to gauge where we are competitively as our squad has come together very late and some key players, such as Green, have not even played yet. Our season will gather pace as the new squad get used to playing together, so the key thing is to pick up some points during the early games. I think we will scrape a win on Saturday, but we will be made to work hard for it. Spennymoor have a decent squad of players who have played for many years at the level above - they will be no pushovers.

Rests on whether Green and Burton can make it for me. Spennymoor are a good side at this level so as others have said can't get complacent.
Going for Chester 1-1 Spennymoor with Dudley opening his account for the season. 2,012 in attendance. 100 odd Spenny.

It’s been a while since I’ve been looking forward to a Chester FC game as much as this. With us having a really positive Summer both on and off the field, I expect us to be competitive this season and have a good crack at the cherry.
However, I think that we have a tougher start than first anticipated. Spennymoor Town are no push-overs after finishing in a respectable position last time out. They will be arriving from County Durham confident that they can cause some sort of an upset. We’ll have to start off right from the mark because if we do begin to feel uncomfortable after 15 minutes or so, Spennymoor will start to take advantage of our immaculate surface and attempt to quieten the atmosphere down.
I expect us to start off our campaign with 3 points, but by no means will it be easy and we’ll certainly have to earn it. COME ON CITY! Score: Chester FC (Dudley, Howson) 2-0 Spennymoor Town Attendance: 2,126 (111 Spennymoor Town) COYB!

I take it they are a good ball-playing, possession-based side Rio? Must admit I haven't got a clue what sort of team they are.

Chester to win 2-1. Dudley and Livesey to score. Thank god somebody started the thread before you Rio, we might win a few this season now.

Would take a 1-1 here to get us off the mark. A fixture we could easily lose if we're not very careful, and that would knock the great feeling around the club.
Really looking forward to it.

I reckon we’ll murder em. I’m going 5-1 to us just can’t see us losing many all season with this squad.

I suspect we'll do well to win this.
Spennymoor finished last season really well, and have made 7 or 8 signings in the summer. It may take us a few games to hit our stride, and we've a tough first few games.
2-2. Howson and Dudley.
Anyone else a little worried watching the training session tonight? What looked like the first team were outplayed by the rest. Not sure who the Red 2 and 10 were, but both looked sharp and mobile.

I do feel that players who know they are going to be in the starting 11 will not want to risk injury so close to the start of the season so will not be going into challenges 100 percent.

Looks a strong enough side that and more importantly, minus last years crap. Really does feel like the start of a new era. COYB

Never know what to make of the first game of the season, and we have a torrid historical record (seven wins in the 28 seasons since 1990). Will take a draw. Add to that the managers stating they were slow starters, and only won once in nine opening games. I'd take a solid draw, or a sneaky 1 goal win. It's important we don't lose badly, that would kill what has been some really decent feelgood momentum being built up.

Currently away in turkey . Game will be over by the time I return. As mentioned this is the first competitive game our new squad will have played. Fingers crossed for a good start 3-1 COYB.

The Bookies have Spennymoor as favourites! A strange one that. Most bookies have Spennymoor to finish in the bottom half, and Chester to be Top 3. Yet, Spennymoor are favourites for this game. I'm no expert, but I suppose they have a logical reason behind that. Similarly York, most bookies have them to finish Top 3 or 4, and Chorley to be bottom half, yet Chorley are odds-on to beat them Saturday.

Pretty sure our managers will have the lads minds in the right frame and that, together with the support of a large(ish) crowd, points to a 3-1 win followed by a large following at Curzon on Monday

Interesting to see what the gate will be on Saturday too. I think the trauma of the previous two seasons will have us under the 2K mark, but hopefully a few wins and we can get up and around it soon enough.
I'll go with 1850 in attendance.
