After being enchanted last night with the quality of the victory at Curzon and believing even at this early stage that we can mount a serious promotion challenge I wondered if the miracle were to happen how many of these players would be good enough to play at the next level. There must be a good argument to say that a very high proportion of them would be. Any thoughts?

Hopefully we keep most of the side that win us promotion (if it happens) I believe the one of the biggest downfalls was the mass exodus of players after we won the conference north and signed journeymen like Jason Jarrett.

Yep, I read an interview with Neil Young whilst he was in charge and he stated that when he signed players, he did so with a view to the league above. Erm, really ?

Quite a few have come here due to part-time football so we'd probably lose the likes of Burton and Stopforth

I agree but not so much using JJ as an example given his huge off field problems and battle he’s had with mental health.

Given that anyone with half a brain knew he had comittments that earn him more money than football that he can’t turn down it was almost suicidal to sign him as our main striker.

At the risk of being a killjoy, another 40 games to go, fellas! Honestly we will walk this league. Don’t see us losing all season with the squad that we have, the amazing managers and an energised fan base. 100 points a serious possibility.

Quite a few have come here due to part-time football so we'd probably lose the likes of Burton and Stopforth No reason why part time can't give us a decent start back in the National. Obviously, not workable long term, but these part time players would have done a whole lot better than the (quasi) full time players last season.

You’re overlooking the significant factor that is crap refereeing. There is some absolutely shocking decisions made at this level. We even saw World Cup games decided by referees, and they had VAR to assist their shocking decisions.

Fair to say we will certainly lose this season, but we should also be there about the playoff spots I’d imagine. He are capable of automatic I’m sure but it’s all about maintaining confidence and work rate which I’m sure we will.
We can see why so many of us wanted Hulme as well, 3 how’s in his first 2 games. We have arguably the best striking options in the league given the work rate they all have though. Okay you’ve got some big names at other clubs but I’m not sure you’ll see them hastling defenders for 90 forcing them into long balls.

Obviously, not workable long term, but these part time players would have done a whole lot better than the (quasi) full time players last season. Why wouldn't it be sustainable long term? I think we've proved that it's the only model that is sustainable long term I'd say. As long as we are relying on the vast majority of the work done around the club by volunteers, I think we need to stick with this model and do what we can with it. If you look at the facilities around Tameside stadium the other night, surely we should be aiming to expand towards that kind of set up before stretching ourselves for a pipe dream chance at league football. I know that was all paid for by their council, but the benefit that has to the community around it, athletics, 4g pitches, even a cycling track! And the club has benefited hugely off the back of it. I wonder if the council could be interested in some kind of joint venture to re develop the land behind the stadium or even a strip of land could be found elsewhere to do it. Great to see us performing well on the pitch but I'm not convinced that promotion and a pro contracted side is the be all and end all.
